Deep Linking: Necessary for Getting Inner Pages Ranked?

I am starting to do some link building for a larger site with a wide keyword net. It is targeting lots of longtail phrases. For example: Natural Health

The goal is to get all internal pages to rank for their individual KW terms.

I'd be interested in hearing people's thoughts on the most effective approach.

    A. Get as many links as possible to home page, using one general KW anchor text. Example: Natural Health Remedies.

    B. Get as many links as possible to home page, using many specific anchor text phrases which refer to phrases used on internal pages. Example: "Aromatherapy for Migraines", "Acupunture for Back Pain", "Best Herbs for Insomnia" and etc etc.

    C. Get good amounts of links to each internal page, using anchor text to match KW phrase the page is optimized for. Example: "Home Made Herbal Salve for Sore Ankles"

Which is the best use of my time?

    Hello donnareed,
its recommend you use B and C option..
because if you use distinct anchor texts its good for higher rankings as well option c for crawling internal pages ( in site map add all your pages and your internal pages may crawled too in some time)

Option C is probably best but it required the most effort.

Thanks for the answers. I agree C should work the best, but like forumposters said, it's not easy as many directories will not allow submitting deep links.

I would target the primary kw phrase for the home page and work at getting deeplinks to the topical sections of the site. Obtaining links to the sub sections of your web site and using appropriate anchors to link to your individual products can go a long way in helping those pages rank for longtail terms.

Seeking links for topics such as Aromatherapy, Accupuncture and Herbal Remedies is much easier as sub-sections of your site may offer enough content that some directories would accept deeplinks. Other sites might also consider linking to subtopics as opposed to the individual product pages.

Increasing the deeplink ratio is thought to increase the authority status of a site - we notice it is much easier to rank individual product pages when linked from our sub-topic pages that have several quality inbound links.

Create a "Link to Us" page and offer a variety of anchors and urls for others to use depending on the primary content of their own site. We've gotten a number of nice relevant one way links from other web masters linking to internal sections of our sites by offering this option.

Many webmasters are still trying to promote their sites as a whole so it's not uncommon for them to naturally link to the home page of other sites. It's better to promote from within.
