I have read on lots of forums about the sandbox, and google penalties for building backlinks to fast. I have made my SEO plan and to build up to around 400 Links to my site In a month mainly by using Directory Submission, Article Directories, Squidoo, Hub-Pages, Link Exchanging with other related site, Forum Posting & Yahoo Answers. Is this to many links to build for a brand new site? My next question is when people say focus on quality over quantity what do they mean? Should I just purchase 20 PR6 Relevant back links over the space of a month and hope my site gets good SERP's? Finally my last question is about the google penalty. When something goes viral on digg around 200-400 sites will link to it daily how come they dont get penalised? Look forward to hearing a response to all 3 of my questions. Thanks HydroJohn
Generally speaking for a new site I think 400 in a month is far too many - I'd go for more like 10 - 20 a month to beign with and make sure they are THEMATIC. Secondly, I'd go for a range of PRs, any new site that randomly acquires 20 pr6 links is never going to look natural. Go for a couple at the top end and lots of pr 1s and 2s to begin with
I think it's a myth, there is no such thing as building link too fast, it's just building the wrong way
i meant from unique domains (not unique backlinks). I wouldn't go hammering 400 uniqu domains into your site every month unless you have a very big site with lots of unique pages - do you think that would look natural really?
It depends on the method..... Getting thousands of individual links each month, yes that is very suspicious.
You would have to build thousands and thousands of links a day for google to even think of penalizing you you can easily 1,000 links a day and be just fine in googles eyes.
Thanks Loco! Thats what id assumed due to when sites go viral they dont get penalised so it cant be like 20 or 30 per month.
Google acts crazy. I know there are a lot of myths but on the other hand, there are a lot of stories that prove that there is something more to these myths than what meets the eye. Be safe and take your time building links. Start with article submission, that's the safest way to go.
Yes this is really strange to me. There are tips saying that you should not "build like too fast" and you should never get links from FFA or porn site (unless yours is also a porn site) otherwise the site will get panelized. If this is the case, I can easily kill my competitors by spending some money to get lots of porn and FFA links to their sites. Unless the people in Google are really insane, I think the worst case will be that Google ignore the inbound links.
You should only build 10 a week.. This leaves me free to dominate you in the SERP's as i build thousands lol.
I dont think google will penalize if u will generate links faster. If it would have been possible, then u can kill ur competitor easily. I had generated around 1000 links in a month for my sites and it was an old site. Instead of any penalty it improved in terms of ranking and traffic.
no they don't care it's just a myth because think about it, you have a new site with unique content that no one has seen before and everyone starts linking to you "check this out" "omg look at this article" the only way you can get penalized is if you're using sleazy blackhat methods and duplicate content on directories etc.
how is it possible to build back links too fast? it was not possible to build 400 back links in a month
