I love Internet Marketing and everything that goes into advertising or marketing a service or product. However...even though I'm in the marketing biz myself, I am annoyed by other forms of marketing that I have forced upon me. Living in the U.S., I am bombarded by different forms of advertising every day and while I can appreciate the idea of how it helps the promoter, I am pissed that I have to be subjected to it. At any rate, I can't stand it when I have to endure the following: 1. People who advertise on their car/SUV/truck. - It's like everyone's in NASCAR nowadays with some kind of graphics on the rear window or even the entire car painted up like the website. It's just ridiculous if you ask me. 2. Commercials before movies - It used to be a quick insert from Coke or something or a look behind the scenes of a certain film. Now it's 30 minutes of ads before the film even starts. It's very tricky to time when to arrive just as the ads are ending and the previews for new movies begin. 3. Product Placement - On the subject of movies, it's gotten ridiculous how blatent some of these companies have gotten in order to display their product on the screen. Whatever happened to subtlety? Anyone else in here feel this way?
Its funny when you look back at the successful marketing campaigns from 1900-1980. They were so simple and direct. I think it only annoying because you are a marketer yourself (and forgetting the term) you are programmed to take notice of marketing techniques. Most people are immune to advertising that its only going to get worse with more intrusive advertising to come. I dont blame the marketers I blame the people who allow them to market. What honest filmaker diminishes thier masterpiece with rediculous product placement? That is a shame.
I see no reason to hate these other form of marketing. When we are presented with opportunities to advertise, I'd say go for it.
Good points. There's another discussion going on in DP about whether us Internet Marketers click on ads. Most don't because they are aware of what's going on, who's getting paid, etc. At least for me, this kind of thing translates over to advertising outside the Internet.
Man, don't be bothered ! It's like me - i hate small boobs, but I'm not angry at them everytime I see em, cause there's just too many. Dig it ? Master FriendlyBear (Shaolin)
I'm an American and visited England for a few weeks. It was very refreshing to get a break from the constant assault of advertising from all directions we are subjected to here in the states. I think people in most areas of the world can't understand unless they have been here.
I use a mixture of advertising methods including car magnets. I at least try to tastefully color the magnets to suit the car so they aren't too gaudy. You're right that you can't go many places without being hit by advertisements, but when I look at them, I see more ideas to incorporate into my own advertising rather than something to get annoyed about. Businesses are spending money designing ads that work, so why not take something away from that for yourself?
I noticed that in Europe there are few billboards and the countries are beautiful. There were some ugly McDonalds and I vowed never to eat at McDonalds again. I wish we could clear our country of billboards.
I wouldn't sweat it. Who knows you may see something that you can take and use for internet marketing??
Don't listen to him? Flyers work great with the right products in the right locations, especially if you're advertising locally. Who's the clown now?
I actually own a company called thesignbandits and we advertise on bandit signs all over the place. Works great for some industries.
I kind of like the advertising on cars. When I get back to the U.S I am going to get my car wrapped with my site on it. I just dont like so many commercials on the radio and television. If they could reduce it by 15% that would be best
