Who else runs a niche directory?

Recently I've become interested in running niche type directories as opposed to general directories and was wondering who else is running this type of site?

I have 2. One is dedicated to coffee sites and the other to chilie pepper and spicey food lovers.

While my general directory is much more lucrative, I just have a lot more fun with the niche directories. How about you?

I guess if your niche is something you're passionate about, running a niche directory is a good plan. It's an excuse to find out about a lot of sites on your favourite topic, and really read up on the subject.

You need a very good word filter to weed out the spam submissions, though.

 

do you manually add links to the niche directorys or wait for submissions?

 

Well,

Like all new directories, there is a certain amount of seeding that must take place, but once you get it going, you can certainly draw listings through normal promotions, affiliations, and word of mouth.

I think Obelia said it right though in my case, I enjoy the niches because the subjects are something I enjoy. Passion may be going a bit far in my case.

 

I run niche a few niche directories, i feel they provide much better relevant information to visitors rather than general directories, which i find most of the time serve no purpose other than to make adsense money..

I have to agree. But niche directories also draw good adsense money.

 

I have a few: game directory; multimedia directory; and graphics directory.

I would appreciate, if you could provide missing categories to be added that would help directory owners to list theirs in appropriate category.

Mine is both general and niche. Niche ones are subs. I wanted niche directories first, so I could target specific ones. But I realized general directories can cover many categories which help grow the directory quicker.

It's funny, I started a directory type site for Phone Installers because I got tired of answering the same question that everyone phoned in...Do you install? or who can I get to install?...so I created a directory for Telephone Installers. I also got a lot of technical questions over the phone (which I couldn't answer)...so I created a tech forum. They did the job...clearing the phone calls...That's the reason I started them. Things that make ya go humm.

I've got a music directory attached to my Heavy Metal music site, and a auction directory on my eBay related site.

 

I have a Dog Directory see signature. IMO I think niche is the way to go

 

I have two: http://business.ldir.info and http://fitness.ldir.info . I need to improve my script to continue these directories, and give more attention to them.
