Hunting whales for food

At International Whaling Commission (IWC) meeting, Japan won a key vote on commercial whaling. There are mixed opinion on this vote. Japan claims it is doing it for scientific purpose and it is also cultural. Some of the Caribbean Nations like St. Vincent hunt Pilot whales also known as black fish and dolphins for food. Japan says killing whales for food is not any different than people killing the livestock like cows, pigs for food or hunting the wild deer and boars. Japan also said the Western Nations try to impose its imperialist rule on Japan. On the other hand the anti-whaling lobby like Green peace, USA and Australia indicated harpooning the whale with exploding grenade is cruel, barbaric and nothing to do with culture, and eventually whales will become extinct species. In addition whales also maintain the ecosystem of the ocean by eating zoo plankton and fish. Who do you think is correct?

i think killing of whales is ridiculous, they are actually pretty intelligent and aware creatures, with a very complex form of conversation amongst themselves. Arguable the second in intelligence to human beings, so i do not agree that they should lift the no killing whales ban. Where the hell did this come from? Whaling is just the next thing on the list of human blunders to destroy this planet. We are a type ZERO intelligence, and this proves it.

I'm an Aussie in Japan, and haven't seen whale meat anywhere (haven't looked hard though) and none of my Japanese friends have had whale meat before.

Difference between this and livestock farming is that farmers are breeding new cows to replace the others in a endless cycle. When they kill whales they don't give back what they take out.
