So I wake up this morning check my YPN account and to my suprise it is at $100+. The highest I have previously was $30 a day. I am only running ads on a file upload site. I checked my cpanel web stats and I am getting a bunch of traffic from Saudi Arabia out of nowhere. This concerns me as I don't have any geo-targetting for my ads. How strict is Yahoo on this? Also, does anyone know how to get phpadnews to geo filter ads?
Congrats! I am not used to using phpadnews but I do use falkage (adsolutions), their great. GIve them a try.
If I were in your situation, I would be proactive, i.e. I would call YPN and ask them, "I'm suddenly getting all this traffic from Saudi Arabia. I'm an honest publisher and I'm not trying anything 'funny,' but I'm getting this strange, non-US traffic, and I want to know if my account is in jeopardy because of it..." I think that taking proactive stance sends a clear signal that you aren't trying to game or cheat the system. I can't stand uncertainty or loss of control in business matters. If YPN was about to cancel my account, I'd want to know ASAP, so I can work on plans for moving on. As always, IMO. AmCy
He can easily find out where the traffic is from if he goes back and looks over his logs. Seems to me the guy is trying to pull something off here. But whatever, I dont like to get into anyones problems, I have a plenty of mines. Calling YPN and asking them what AMCY posted would be the dumbest thing ever, becuase really, just use common sense and figure out what their reply would be? If you cant control your traffic, where it comes from and stuff what the hell can they do about it? Of course your account is in jeopardy. Good luck, and let us know what's up please?
He already knows where the problem traffic is coming from: Saudi Arabia. Sooooo....u think it's better to sit at your PC, knees-knocking and biting your nails, wondering day in and day out whether your account is going to get the axe? Not me. As always, IMO. To each his own.
Ok, Ok, I know, but hey! Saudi Arabia? He must have a couple of "URL's" of where his traffic is coming from, right? Why not ask them to take the link down? Or try something similar to that. And why not install the geotargetting software before calling or panicing, dont you think that would be YPN's suggestion as well? I mean, really, not trying to be rude, but sometimes common sense really comes handy!
The publisher is responsible for all traffic and managing it... so I would apply Geo-targetting immediatly because your ads must only appear to like 90% US visitiors or it's a flag I believe. And... wait until tomarrow before you know what you really got, they don't take out the international clicks until the next day I don't think.
Yes, geotargeting is an option. But I'd never use it. For me, geotargeting would interfere with the long term growth strategy of my sites.
Geotargeting just means serving YPN ads to US people and Google (or other) ads to non-US visitors. How does it interfere with long or short term growth of a site?
Discussing the details of my situation in such a public forum would put me at a distinct disadvantage, but the bottom line using geotargeting software isn't an option for me. The only geotargeting I use is with AdWords.
Right on point. What people here mean by geotargeting is not-showing yahoo ads to NON-US visitors (only ads will not appear to them, your site, pages etc will do).
