in your opinion how many incoming links with the anchor text say 'my keyword' would it take to rank when the keyword has under '15,000' in competition with the "quote" marks around the key words? i know its hard to say, as i suppose it could depend on the authority of the sites your links are on but just lets say their low pr incoming links.
In this case it's not just a matter of how many links you get - it's also about how high the page rank is on the pages you're getting links from. With such low competition, and assuming that all your first page competition is page rank 3 or below, you should be able to get some top placements with an article at ezinearticles pointing back to your site, plus about five to ten other backlinks. I did this in October with several sites where I was targeting a very narrow set of keywords that had low competition. I was on the first page of Google for my main terms within a week. I did more links than just ten backlinks, but even at the ten stage I was on the first page and then I gradually bumped up to the top of Google. You do have to keep updating your sites though. I didn't really update my new sites so they are still on the first page of Google but toward the bottom right now, not the top. Dan
Depending on keywords and sites. If the keywords you would like to rank for are not competitive most of the time ten-hundreds of links are enough (I say it fro experience, not from studies). For competitive keywords, thousands are not enough.
It's difficult to say how many backlinks you will need but if you get relevant links from established sites it will not be very difficult to rank well.
Quality over quantity, but I would say having 5-10 solid sites relative to your site linking back to you with your anchor would show up on the first page for a 15,000 keyword competition. -Alf
Make sure you don't go too fast, if you add backlinks too fast you'll get banned by google. Try to stay realistic, SEO takes time
Sounds Reasonable to me. You can make it within 3-4 months. Just make sure to have some relevant links pointing to you.

The easiest way to know that is by checking the number of back link of teh website that is ranking number one on that keyword.
i would choose below 1000 searches instead of 15k. the lesser searches the lesser competition. what do you think?
That might be good, but you also need to put into consideration the number of search volume for that KW. You might rank there well, but not so searchable by users.
The best way to know the answer to this is you need to have more links than those you are trying to displace in the serps. Go to google, find the #1` site ranking for the keyword, then go across to yahoo and use site explorer and check out the backlinks that site has. Make sure you are viewing links excluding internal links for the domain. Also check out both domain(.)com and www(.)domain.com as yahoo does quite often report differences. That will tell you exactly how many links you need. It all depends on how active the top sites ranking for the keyword have been with link building. Sometimes it can only take a fewlinks, other times you come across an active webmaster and it might take hundreds or thousands.
