    It was no help.

Jim"noble" and Anonymously can only repeat the garbage that is written on DMOZ site but in reality as you can see in that thread, DMOZ has no copyright on category structure or content. ;)

Why DMOZ copyright claim is just garbage.

Editors author the listings' titles and descriptions. gworld may have forgotten that editors assign their copyright of these to AOL during the process of becoming an editor.

They can not assign other people copyright to AOL since so many of description and titles are pure copy, look in that thread for examples.
some of the short description or titles do not qualify for copyright.
Directory structure is a derivative work from a job paid by U.S. government, so can not have any copyright.
Do you want me to continue?

Neither of us is a lawyer and so further discussion seems pointless. Continue on to your heart's content dear Julian - I'm done in this thread.

I do find it odd that when claims are backed up, editors back out (or in many cases simply resort to personal attacks, that's not the case here).

I'd really like to see official word on the copyright questions *shrug* while I personally think it should be copyrighted, I have to say that gworld's points do seem valid.

That was way back in 2005 when even an ADMIN participated in that discussion. Making my directory : copying DMOZ structure is OK? with a new thread opened since arguments were heating up. Does DMOZ have any copyright on directory structure or content?

    Gworld won there IMO. :D

It's not a matter of anyone "winning" or "losing".
As we keep patiently explaining, only AOL can comment or decide on legal matters. Not volunteer editors (of whatever position). So trying to engage volunteers in an argument over something outside our control is completely pointless, and claiming to have "won" is meaningless.

It might come as surprise to you but editors are permitted to have brain and opinion.

So if anyone uses the data the way they like to use it then just let AOL or its legal team handle the rest too. Don't force people to do things that you don't even have control over.
