Do you ever get the .net to resell to the .com owners?

So I purchased a couple .net names, mostly LLLL.net by researching the .com version first and finding a large company that owns them. Anyone here have any success in getting the .com owners to purchase your .net? For instance, one of them is a radio station, and another one is a fairly high ranked car magazine forum. I estibotted the .com's and they mostly range in the xx,xxx range, after the traffic is calculated in. I'm really just looking for a quick flip, but not sure how likely this would happen. What are your thoughts on it.

This is risky because .com owners can just take the domain by filing WIPO. its called domain squatting :)

It is risky, the legitimate brands holders can sue you for domain squatting.

It is a waste of your time and money to purchase the .net of a big .com domain. They most likely hold the trademark on that name and you will end up giving them the domain for free.

All the .net's I did this with were LLLL.net, I would think that would make a little harder for the WIPO case. Of the 7, I did get 1 sale, so luckily I got my money back, plus some, since it was all reg fee. I figured this wasn't really a viable market, but thought I'd give it a shot. Thanks for your input guys.

Yes, but unfortunately very the act of contacting them first shows bad faith. It's safer to just hold the name and hope they contact you. You could also put up a mini-site that uses the name for something unrelated to the .com use.

This domaining strategy also works better if you buy the .com and sell it to the company using the .net but it can still be risky.

Why would the .com owner want the .net? It's works the other way around buddy. Some .net traffic would be going to the .com

Unless it's a premium .net the only person interesting in buying it would be the .com owner, so you were crazy for rejecting the offer.
