I have been online since its early days - probably 15 years now. During that time, I think the number of times I would have clicked an ad would average out to around 4 clicks per year! and that might be optimistic. [I spend at least 20 hours per week online when not at work] I just dont click ads - and Im sure there must be many others like me. Yes, I know they are there, but there is something deep inside me that resists clicking them. Instead, I write down the websites name, or copy and paste the link if its obvious, and go there at my leisure. Obviously this sort of online behaviour is bad for the advertising industry, but it also shows the flaw in thinking when people obsess about the whole range of topics relating to clicking ads. Not everyone responds to an ad by clicking it. To conclude, the only times I have clicked an ad are when I am so appreciative of the material on the webmasters site that I reward him in the only way I can - by clicking an ad. I dont buy anything via the ad, I dont read the webpage the ad goes to - but I do hope that the click generates more than a few cents for the website owner. Does anyone else behave like this. see ya ET
I have it exactly the same way. I never click ads, only on my friends sites to help them. And that happens 2 time a year
After some time, users develop ad blindness so they never click an ad. But there can be some ways to make them click.(LEGAL) ;-)
i never clock the ads either, i'll see the site name or somethin & open a new browser to check it out if i'm interested. i find the ads very annoying & usually try to "x" them. sometimes in the process of clicking the x i'll accidently click the ad. thats probly why that make the x so small
wow - so the only people who actually click on ads are those with poor vision - who think they are clicking a link, those with the shakes, or those who have no idea what they are doing and click on anything in site. Good to see the online advertising industry is based on such sturdy stuff Pleasing to see that the old click for a buddy system is alive and well see ya ET
Most publisher would not click ads because they know somebody is making money and they dont like it. But for normal people, they cant really sure it that is the ads so they click if it seems interesting. Therefore the ways of making ads look like your content to get more clicks :d
I don't click on Flash ads because I hate Flash. I especially can't stand anything that suddenly appears on my screen using Flash or Javascript. I don't even read what it's about. I look for the 'X' and make it go away, ASAP.
I only click ads when I think the webmaster did a great job on the website - or when I'm really interested in the product.
I click on ads when I'm doing research. It lets me know what my competitors are up to and what is currently working in that niche.
The whole idea is to give the ads as an exit strat.. You don't want them to click the [x] after reading it!
I have done this before and only clicked on an ad on the sites that i like, or if i want to help them out. I now have a website hosting blog; http://www.cis-webhosting.com/ Which i write alot about website hosting and related topics. I have only 1 ad on there to keep it clean. ~ Mike
