I started a new travel advice blog about 2 months ago. Although the colors are pretty nice it has a rather bland theme and no branding. Now that I have decided that the blog will be at least a moderate success I was wondering what you all think is the best route to go for branding.

I must admit mascots like the one Tyler Cruz uses are pretty catchy I was wondering do you think they are overkill or should I go with a more traditional logo like the one shoemoney uses

I think the logo that Tyler Cruz has creates a more social atmosphere to his blog

I am looking for a more social atmosphere so maybe a cartoon caricature of myself would be the most inviting. The blog isn't about a specific place its an advice blog about cruising.

Defiantly go for Tyler Cruz, something like that would actually want to make me go back to the site, believe me I've done it in the past.

However if you want a custom professional one like that, your not going to get much change of $1,000, unless you do it yourself of course. On the other hand, I'm sure you will get a decent looking one if you make a thread on here getting someone to do it for $50-$100.

I had a tattoo in Rarotonga done with native Cook Island maori designs. I took one of the images from the tattoo and made it my logo.

I like it and there is a cool story behind it.

I like the logo as I am getting one made for my soon to launch site and blog that coexists for each other like batman and Robin

the logo represents a single image that gets branded as quality. But if your a comedian offering advice and making it funny go with the mascot but only if trying to make it a little humorous

    This is a great thread!

I'm in the exact same dilemma. SoLinkable has started to show some success... but it's still just a hobby site that I designed myself - And I'm definitely no designer. I just threw together some tutorials that I found on a few web design blogs. While I like it, I know that it's no match against the larger competition out there.

My vote goes towards a logo (like shoemoney's), though I still love the mascot. I really believe that they are both good choices, as long as there is quality in the design.

    Good luck moving forward burghboy.
