i have a few site that are hosted there and i have never had a problem. The site have been there for well over 2 years

i think they are the number one hosting company, if not the number one they are in the top five, you have no worry with hostgator.

Not really, but they like to add things to the terms of service and expect you to already have removed things from your site. >.> I ran a topsites scripts, and my account was terminated because they updated the terms of service one day earlier that forbid aardvark topsites. Oh well. I wouldn't recommend them though. Instead, go with 1and1 or Dreamhost.

This is why many people think it is a scam...

Hostgator does not own their datacenter. Their servers are operated by Theplanet.com in Texas.

When many people discover this, they think " Why should I get hosting from Hostgator if Hostgator is hosted by Theplanet? "

The answer to that, Hostgator provides the hosting including the features and such through those servers while Theplanet supplies them with dedicated servers and a datacenter. Theplanet does not offer shared hosting, as they only have the top quality dedicated servers. This means you get hosting from Hostgator on the best servers and at one of the most respectable datacenters in the entire United States. Paired with excellent customer support and great prices. The end result is More Uptime + Faster Servers + Price comparable with the rest + Nice Features = Great Hosting Package!

Final Answer: It's not a scam. You are getting a bargain instead.

I agree with most of the people above. I just switched to them and I really like their service, especially live chat. And their servers are pretty fast. I am using the SHARED account and you can check the speeds of my sites thats currently hosted there. Some use MySQL and some are just plain PHP.

    bargainscent.com (mysql+php)
    chinesemoviesdvd.com (mysql+php)
roguebargains.com (plain PHP + RSS parser)
moneypotential.com (plain PHP + RSS parser)

Hostgator is one of the best, if not the best Webhost provider for people ranging from noob to experienced.

Their support is amazing, and their uptime is reliable.

I, as well, have all my sites with Hostgator, and actually plan to upgrade to a reseller account in 2009 because I love them that much.

    They just oversell,
use the coupon "jury" and get $9.95 off :D
they also have a very good support, also a 30 days off.

Again overselling doesnt mean they are bad :D

HostGator is pretty good but their servers are not so secure, especially hackers are exploiting the rfi Remote File İnclusion vulnerabilities and hacking your website, other than that no other major problems ;)

Really? Crap.. like how? Any instances of this happening? I just moved there from Dreamhost. Is Hostgator less safe than other shared hosting?

Thanks for the headsup. I did some quick research and found this link that showed how to update php.ini for all domains on shared hosting.

    http://forums.hostgator.com/hostgator-not-support-php-ini-t7683.html?p=137231

And I basically turned off fopen, register_global.

Would be interesting to know where you got that idea from, or are you just being cautious.
