How much of a difference do these two processors make?

Hi guys im looking at a £90 price difference in the following two processors. Yes their both pretty good with their differences. It will be supported by a 4gb RAM.

    • Quad Core Intel® Xeon® X3220, 2.40GHz, 2x4M Cache, 1066MHz FSB (£90 cheaper)
    • Quad Core Intel® Xeon® X3360, 2.83GHz, 2x6MB Cache, 1333MHz FSB (£90 more)

So how much of a difference will i be seeing in terms of speed? The servers will primarily be for hosting game servers. What differences or limitations am i to expect if i were to go with the x3220 as oppose to the x3360?

    Cheers

It's .23 Ghz more and a bigger cache (4 MB overall bigger 2 MB on each) and a higher Front Side Bus which should reduce bottle necking. Other than that, they both look nice, but if you're planning on a budget I'd say go for the X3220. Speed wise its cost to ratio is not worth it.

Bus speed is important. I would use the 1333 instead. Also the cpu speed is about 20% faster.

1333mhz by far, i have machines running the same CPU and they haul through the traffic compared to single cpu quad core.

They will make a noticable differance, but you need to think what are you using the servers for and does it really need that bit extra power... for the money its not really worth it unless you really need it...
