Is it better to have articles on your own website or submit them externally?

I'm just wondering - would you

    A) Have your own articles directory on your website and use software such as Wordpress and write content to it.

    or

    B) Write articles and then submit them to directories and allow other people to copy them so long as they use your signature at the bottom and link to your website?

    or

    C) Something else (Please tell)

    Cheers, Steve

No matter where you submit them, the WILL be stolen and your signature WILL be removed. It's inevitable...

So taking that into account, which of the above would/do you do?

    1) For instant traffic and one way incoming links, submit them to article directories.

    2) For long term website traffic building, put them on your own site. If you're using Wordpress, tag it and ping it so you get traffic from them anyway.

I'm not totally up to date with the tag and ping method - all I understand is that you 'ping' it to get the new article ranked by the major search engines quicker.

Could you point me in the right direction to completely understand what this is and how it's done?

Say I write an article and have it posted at:
    website.com/articles/12/31/article

How would I tag and ping this?

    Thanks, Steve

The answer is both, depending on what you are doing. For example, blogs will often have good quality content their website. They will also submit some unique content (not copied from their site) to article directories to help increase traffic.

Submitting to article directories is often a good way for you to increase your traffic and reach targetted visitors.

Having your own unique / quality content on your own website gives your targetted traffic a reason to stay and be at your website.

Have them both in your site and submit them all over the place. The more who see your articles, the more money you make.

Webasters who know what they are doing don't bother with the seo issue. It is overrated.

Think about putting your link in the article itself, but do not make them live. Make them part of the text. Example: "...TheList.FM found a great way to...." "You will be able to read more in TheList.FM, but for now, read this litle tip...."

Do it a couple of times.

The reason is obvious. Many who copy your articles (but very few do anyway, so no worries) will not take the time to take them out. Plus your readers are reading your url more than once.

If they are interested, they will type it in. If they aren't, it doesn't matter if you make the link live because they won't click on it anyway.

    Make sense?

Then submit them to content sites, portals, like online magaznes for maximum exposure. Networks, or what we like to call, "article dumpers" like ezine are overrated, and bring very little traffic.

If you have a WordPress blog you can use a plugin like the All in One SEO pluging which will allow you to tag each blog post with keywords you've optimized for. Wordpress will automatically ping Pingomatic or Pingoat. Then the search engine spiders come around to index your content.

I would suggest you to make a section of articles on your site.
Submit short versions of these articles on special sites - article sites. In these case, search engines will give credit to your site - because you have original content; you will get links too; you will have no problem related to duplicate content issues.

If you have quality article which you can use as content use them on your site. You can always submit them after the pages with the articles have been indexed by the search engines.

I prefer submitting to directories, as you get a huge burst of traffic.

I think you need some professional advice. I can tell by the way that your questions are posed that you really need to start with the basics. Nothing wrong with that. Check out the following 2 blogs and I'm sure you'll have a lot of your questions answered. Remember, it's impossible to get all your questions answered in an IM forum. Your going to need more than that when starting out. Go here:

    1. Internet Marketing with Josh Spaulding (very good!)
Look for his ebook Article Marketing Domination

    2. cashtactics.net (very good. a bit more advanced)

How good are the articles? Quality wise?

And how good is the site on which you propose to put the articles?

If the articles and the site are nothing above ordinary, I'll take the article directories option.

Both. You need external articles pointing to your site and you need new content for your site consistently.

Put them on your website. It will be indexed and be marked as the original content. Even if others steal your content, it does not matter because Google would have indexed it on your site first.

Article directories are excellent for marketing your site and getting some backlinks. Rather do a summary of your article or an article teaser for the directories. But the original article that is long with good keyword density should go on your website first.

I also prefer both. For newbies with sites that need to be promoted and to gain quality backlinks, article directories such as EZA is a big help. But the articles from their site should be re-written well enough, so they can attract visitors to his site.

But nevertheless, one can always be consistent in submitting articles to directories. This is really very effective in making any online business grow more.
