PageRank Updated

just out of interest, how often do google update the PR? is is a periodic thing, or just where and when they feel they will play around with us?!

 

I also don't know why

we are seeing our clients Page Ranks changing daily (about 50% of them so far) so the updates are in progress

 

Nice, my site just went from PR 4 to PR5 ... another new site I just set up a couple of weeks ago got a PR3... !

 

Overall, a drop in PageRank means that a page is receiving less PageRank value from the pages that link to it. In other words, either there are fewer links pointing to the page or the value of those links has dropped. Over the past couple of years, Google has been forced to recalibrate the Toolbar PageRank display more frequently to account for the growth of the web. So a drop by one or two points in the Toolbar PageRank meter may not indicate a drop in ranking power. Its just that each "point" in the Toolbar PageRank meter is becoming increasingly larger in true link value. That is, it takes more "link juice" to climb each step of Toolbar PageRank.

Other recent changes in Google's calculation of PageRank have also had an impact. They are aggressively preventing low quality pages from being able to pass PageRank - most notably in directory sites and blogs, and also on link exchange pages. They're also getting better at detecting paid links and devaluing them completely. As the effects of these changes flow through the web, it is also affecting the PageRank scores on many sites.

 

Some site went down and others very few went up, not sure why down

I'm concerned that one of my three main sites went from a 5 to a 4. That site has over 2000 articles. I've seen updates where the PR fluctuates for a few days so I hope it goes back to a 5.

One of my other sites went up from a 4 to a 5. Go figure.

 

My website has got a lot of pagerank 5 pages.
Unfortunately, many others show NA.

I am sure there will be another PR update this or next month, so google can assign a pagerank to all of my pages. At least, it happened like that the previous time G updated their databases.

 

I do remember times during pagerank when the PR varied greatly for a day or two. I hope this is the case. I have a blog with 2000+ entries and have enjoyed a PR5 ranking for a few years. But unfortunately that one dropped to a PR4.??? WTF?

On the bright side, another site I'm working hard went from a PR4 to a PR5.
