I used to work in ASP. Now I am learning PHP. Somehow I feel PHP is better than ASP in many respect. What do you guys think.
I'm a convert as well. There's just so much more free support for PHP and the open source scripts are more readily available in php.
Ive only used php, but mysql and everything else are really easy to use. Fast operation, Ive had very few problems - mainly finding little coding mistakes.
Since I'm now developing mostly small scripts that others will use PHP is the prefered choice since it's the most supported by various web hosts. For big complex projects I like java servlets with jsp pages for the output part.
Sssssh! That is our secret. Don't tell anyone about MasterPages, Localization, WebParts, UserControls, declarative page/pagelet caching, Membership, Site Structure, Personalization, ViewState, Validation/sticky forms, Wizard control, Two-way databinding, ObjectDataSource. Make sure not to hint anyone about the performance and scalability of ASP.NET. And don't tell anyone that ASP.NET can use all of the .NET Framework. And certainly don't tell them that the sandboxed operation of ASP.NET will allow them to upload and execute any .NET DLL, even with a shared hosting provider. Just tell them that .NET is windows only (please, don't mention Mono) and that M$ sUx0r. Whatever you do, do not *ever* mention the security/robustness track record of ASP.NET.
ColdFusion. Of course, the cost required means that I have to mention PHP is my second favourite. Sounds like I'll have to learn .NET within a year or so, but I'm so not looking forward to it ...
I started with perl in 98, but now I use php almost exclusively. I love anything that is designed for a unix based environment. And I love the open source community in general. I am completely self-taught and there is so much support for php. Jennifer
Very simply: whichever language accomplishes the objectives in the minimal amount of time, produces the lowest server load, and affords the greatest degree of load scalability. Bobby
I'm also a fan of .net, but there's the cost issue. You really just can't beat free. Free is my favorite price, and that's why I do most of my work in PHP and Perl. I'm still a big fan of C#, though. I'm watching the Mono project with interest....
Will someone please explain what the "cost issue" is with asp.net? Yes, you'll generally need to host it on a windows box, but that's about it. The appserver (IIS) is included, .NET Framework is free, Visual Web Developer Express is free. Even when going shared hosting the price difference is minute these days. So, what is the cost issue???
He he!! Funny post. anyway I'd agree that Security and robustness is way more better than ASP and PHP, the only problem I found using .net that it is supported mainly on windows servers. Often useless on *nix servers.
according to me PhP , pearl and our good old javascirpts (in few occasions) can do good to gain popularity
