Foreign language SEO

I'm a native English speaker with some proficiency in Greek. I recently put up a website and optimized it fairly well on-site. However, I am wondering what suggestions people have for link-building. In the past for English, I have relied on directory and article submissions and it has worked really well. Greek has a different alphabet than English as well, so that narrows down the social bookmarking that can be used.

    Suggestions?

It depends if you are targeting people living in Greece, anyone who speaks Greek or just Greek speaking Americans.

If you are targeting people living in Greece, you will want backlinks from other websites that are hosted and/or registered in Greece. Either way, you'll definitely want some links from Greek language websites.

For foreign language seo, it can be tough to get links. Website directories and article directories often only accept English language links. So you'll have to rely on other strategies such as blog commenting and forum signatures. It would also help to get some Greek language articles that you could offer to other Greek websites in exchange for a link or two.

before making a decision, you should ask for expert advices, especially because more languages in your website may be a plus and you could get more and more visits and customers.

i suppose you have a greek language site targeting greek audience? if thats the case, same SEO principle will apply but for hosting and link building, its better to have a local host and have backlinks from sites within the country which you are targeting. see if you find any social bookmarking sites that are in greek language. there are some directories that accept internal sites and have foreign/world/international categories where you can submit your site. there are lot of social sites like squidoo/hubpages/qassia and free hosted blogs like blogger/wordpress.com where you can publish articles related to your site and link back to your site.

Do you offer an English Version of your site? I think that would be helpful. Have you searched your Greek Words on Google to find blogs that you can comment on in Greek Language?

Thanks, but I just want to focus on Greek/English right now since those are the two languages I know and my products are focused on. At this point, I'm not sure it's worth paying somebody to translate into other languages.

I thought most blogs were now "no follow" so does this help with SEO, or just a little traffic if someone clicks through from the blog?
