Yep it is old news. I do agree it will have a profound affect on SEO as we have come to understand it.

    People have power now!

For now they are not using the data, and I don't think most users even notice it

i really doubt it's going to do much to the search results. if anything it will make them less relevant which will then lead to google removing the option. if google really lets people decide how the search engines should look, then it's just going to lead to people trying to manipulate the up and down arrows.

You really think a couple of webmasters are going to manage that? I think the amount of users will far outweigh any manipulation attempts, no?

I don't think it is the end of SEO at all, because not all searchers have google account (The button will only visible if you are log in to google account). Sometime they just open google.com and start searching.

Yes this is old info now, but no doubt will have some impact re SEO over the long term. And I agree with oseymour, most folks hardly notice it at this point, and who knows if Google will ever use this data or not for search engine results relevance.

giant companies will be able to manipulate it to always be on the top. they have the most money. they'll find some way to get to the top. atleast with SEO right now, any small business has a chance if they are good at link building. nobody said link building has to cost money. the people that are good at SEO are the ones that are building high quality links for free. the people that suck at SEO are wasting their money on links.

OMG .... I have never seen that before ....

That will not do shit .... never has and never will .... if it makes you feel better - go ahead and boost all your links to the top of the search, even if it's just on your computer, you can dominate any search ....

It's for personal use, yes you need a google account, it's just a built in bookmarking tool .... you just save your favorite results to the top of the search results - for personal reference only .... only cool thing to do would be to go to internet cafe and create a bogus Google account - then put your sites on (top of) all popular searches ....

That's my freaking point .... some people think that it can be manipulated and it's on a global scale .... they don't realize that it's for personal use .... that's the only way to share your results with others.
