Best wishes to all at DigitalPoint in 2009 Now let us look realistically at the Directory Sector, and what is still needed is a convergence of actions to make this valuable market sector more professional and more significant Here are some essential changes that are required and much in need of being undertaken POSITIVE VIEW POINTS • No new QBC Directories • No more dropped name URL setting up as Directories • All Directory owners need to forget about PR, it’s history, it’s outdated and it is irrelevant in 2009 Directories • No new Directories set up as purely for MFA use • A dilution in in-appropriate URL use as Directory names – example 69BJ69.COM and thousands of similar names are useless and they stick out like a ‘sore thumb’ as being un-professional and tend to undermine the credibility of the Directory Sector • No more re-selling of existing Directory Databases they are a scam at worst, and at best are of no use if bought by an unaware buyer, as when uploaded into a directory – produce a duplicate directory with a different URL name a definite NO NO • Automatic submitter tools are in the main useless – beware – and think through for yourself why they are not an aid that will help in your Directory development • No more spiteful unjustified posts from so called genuine DP Members backbiting against genuine Directory Owners – just please go away and take your rhetoric elsewhere • Many, many, more post your views here too CREATIVE VIEWPOINTS • The Directory sector still has much to offer and will continue to offer professional based opportunities for creative genuine Directories • Niche Directories will continue to gain market position and will get solid traffic traction if implemented correctly • Be professional in both your Directory compilation, operation, editing, maintaining and supporting – and if you cannot do that – then do not even bother to join into the Directory Sector • Think positive, act pro-actively and try to be innovative and originally creative • Work hard, work long it’s not exactly ‘rocket science’ but you have to be organized and if you want to succeed then work on your Directories every day. Yes to repeat it is hard work, but make no mistake it will pay off and succeed if you ensure that you are professional and utilize ethical principles • Many, many, more post your views here too Once again a Happy and Prosperous 2009 New Year
Certainly a good post here, but will it be implemented? by most, no. Some will try harder this coming year I'm sure, but in general most have seen directories as a quick buck and don't want the work that goes with it...Ok, I had been guilty of that in some ways by creating more than I can handle, but I had also worked hard on it all along, but in this coming future I have a goal to get my directories in a respectable manner, because I am very passionate about what I do and it starts with the passion, then the labor of love. The labor of love wont be easy which poses a challenge and that challenge is welcome even more. Hope on this coming years we try to be competitive in a fair way and to learn from one another on how we can better our passion of love.
People need to switch over to....Quality Mode for sure. I love directories but like most everything else....people have to go and screw them up with auto submitters, crap content spam submissions, page submissions, etc. etc. We need to build the quality level back in to the directories and the only way to do that is to stop the crap!!! I am going to try! That is my opinion anyways! Nice post!
Good post as usual Pete Problem is the people reading this are usually the ones that already follow such advice. Unfortunately the dicks that mess around and make the rest of us look stupid wouldn't bother reading such threads.
True. Maybe this is why threads like this are not so popular. Some things will never change...and there will always be 2 categories of owners: those that are trying to make something serious with directories... and those that will still build directories on dropped domains...to sell few links ... and that is it, etc
Depends on whether the person just wants to make a quick buck or if he is in it for the long run. I am for specialized directories. Want a compilation of websites on Adsense moneymaking methods, anyone?
Yup. There's no excuses now, everyone should be aware of what constitutes a real website, and good submission information, and should be editing/rejecting on that basis.
Nice thread. Best wishes for all of you guys out there struggling and working to put directories back up again. Just a side note, a niche directory ranks #1 for one of my countries major keywords.
Good post Pete and this bullet point rings true with me. Get your priorities right - if you make a directory it must be just that, a resource of good websites, with well written and useful descriptions, correctly categorised for the benefit of the user. And thanks for your recent prompt attention to my enquiry. That's where the operation and support comes in
you may post rare but when you post you have something to say.good advices hope everyone will follow. scubita would you mind to share with us the keyphrase and the directory?
I am just entering the world of directories and starting one that as far as I can tell is the only one of its kind. I was going to use some kind of script to set it up, but was unable to get any to work for me on GoDaddy's servers. That being said, taking the long route of hand coding the entire directory is proving quite rewarding and should will make it impossible to bite at any temptations to grow my directory too quickly as I will only be able to add what time allows, and when goign the hand coded rotue I am sure it will not be too much. Anyways, I have been a DP member for quite awhile and of all the areas on DP the people here in the directory section seem to the most genuine people. So good luck to you all in 2009 and may our directories thrive.
@ The tard who red repped me with "fuck niches", you're likely to be one of these less intelligent around these parts that likes to play with PR. I bet a few chunks of change your lousy general directory has no inner categories with page rank. So yeah, what was it you were saying....?
Happy New Year to Pete, Jesse, Dan and all other friends. Great and positive initiative as always Pete. Those points should be our resolutions for the new year.
"No more dropped name URL setting up as Directories" I'm afraid this is inevitable while there are so many domains available and directory templates (as with blogs). Its just easy money - I guess you cant blame people but it certainly gives good directories a bad name.
