Accurate Keyword Tools!

    Hi all,

Where can I find accurate "real" stats on how many searches are completed daily/monthly on Google.

I have used the below tools:

    https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

    http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com

I'm getting extremely frustrated b/c I spent a lot of time on a couple of sites targetting specific keywords but i'm getting nothing out of it.

Theres a couple of keywords i'm targetting...both don't come up on wordtracker but google states that one gets 200 searches a day and the other states 700 searches a day. I'm on google page 1 for both sites and keywords and i'm not receiving a single hit on these two key phrases.

I feel that i'm wasting my time with inaccurate data.

    Please chime in, thanks

At this point, the Google keyword tool is the best available. If Google can't provide accurate stats about their own search data, nobody else would have those stats. They estimate search volume for some reason...whether it's to save system resources or to leave webmasters in the dark is up for question.

I rather doubt that the Google keyword tool would claim a keyword gets 200 or 700 searches per day while wordtracker doesn't list it at all. That would put the monthly search volume at 6000 and 21000. The numbers given by Google are monthly search volume. You may also need to select Exact Match as the tool defaults to broad match.

There may be other reasons why you aren't getting traffic from those keywords. Google does geotargeting. So perhaps you only have those rankings in your own area and not nationwide or internationally. Or perhaps for that certain keyword most people find what they are looking for in the websites ranked higher than you. Another possibility is that your title & description are not enticing enough to get clicks.

I use google keyword search and then use micro niche finder to check the competition for that keyword.

    Thanks for the replies

We'll, one of my keywords is my domain name "supplementscoupons.com" keyword: Supplements Coupons

Google shows 5400/mth, wordtracker shows 0. I'm #7 on google...usually number 4-5 though. I get maybe 2 hits a mth..I suppose it's possible that the others have all of the traffic. This site is North American based, 95% from U.S, i'm in Canada. I'm pretty sure the results are similar for all of NA.
Here is another example " grocery coupons" = wordtracker says 3956 searches. google has 368,000. Huge difference.

I'm wondering though, for the guys receiving lots of traffic, for the guys with top sites in google (#1-3) does your traffic rankings match with googles tool? Can some of the people on this forum perform a query for one of your top keywords and compare to googles adword suggestion tool? No need to mention the keywords, just a general idea of how accurate the stats compare. This is the only true way of figuring out how accurate the data is.

    Thanks much

Yeah for a keyword like that I could imagine people checking the first few results and either finding what they want or giving up. It might not be the kind of keyword which people dig very deep into the results.

I just checked the Google keyword tool for 'supplements coupons'. It only shows 5400 when match type is broad. If you select exact match, it says not enough data. The 5400 includes related terms such as supplement coupons, supplement coupon, supplements coupon code, etc.

You will never be able to find a completely accurate keyword research tool this is impossible unless you actually had control or access to Google's own search engine records and were able to compile some sort of spreadsheet with the statistics in.

However as someone stated before everyone has their own techniques and I believe your asking the wrong question. You should be asking for more keyword research tools to use as well as these ones as thats as accurate as you can currently get.

Personally I will use several keyword research tools when I am delving deep in to my keyword research by doing this I can generally work out some sort of average.

The key is to never take any result you get as a definite number sometimes they can be WAY off, believe me I know. I have a couple of articles and eBooks which might be of use to you, however I couldnt link to them all in here due to the forums rules and through fear of looking like a "spamzer".

But if your interested in learning more about keyword research I have an eBook available via my signature and also take a look at these two articles which discuss and review tools that I have used and mostly still use now.

I have run quite a few campaigns and the only tool I've ever used is Google AdWords Keyword Tool. It works great if you use it right :)
