Don't worry about PR. Just worry about your SERPS.

Are you expecting to jump to #1 if you get a PR5.....well think again.

PR has been all over the place for the last 12 months.

Looks like people are too eager to sell links on their sites and make some quick bucks.
Get a break guys, nobody knows when it happens, so chill and keep working.

 

When I read page rank discussed on a forum, I generally see a posts saying dismiss page rank as it has no relevance. It makes me wonder what planet these people come from.

Of course the relationship between page ranking and SERPS is minimal, that said page ranking should be viewed is a guidance tool as it measures the effectiveness of a link building campaign in the eyes of Google.

Most people are aware that a successful website needs to be

Well constructed
Based around good quality keywords
Be contextually based, with good quality unique content added regularly
Good quality inbound links built in a natural manner.

So if someone can tell me why I should dismiss page ranking I would appreciate it

 

I dont think thats a great thing to do building too many backlinks fast

 

I agree. PR is still the best indicator of the effectiveness of a webmasters' link building campaign.

SERPs on the other hand will depend on about 200 other factors, apart from link building.

 

What does "successful" mean? The other factors besides simply looking at PR (for getting links to improve in SERPs) include:

- age of domain
- is the domain exact match for a keyword? if so, insta-boost.
- anchor text
- authority of the backlinks (google is placing TONS of emphasis on TrustRank recently)
- where the link is placed (in context = worth more)
- whether the site can pass a spam hand review by google and at a more basic level whether it can pass google's anti-spam algorithms

 

Me too. I saw a major cleanup of backlinks to one of my sites. First they went down to only ONE link - then they bounced up to about a dozen. All the DP backlinks went bye-bye last time I checked. lol.

My sites need cleaned up a bit.

With the # of posts & views, I wish I would have started this thread.

 

Funny thing is everyone on here gets on these threads and says that page rank is useless don't worry about it!
Yet, when they build backlinks or submit to directories they submit to high PR directories, etc...
Why don't you only add your site to PR0 directories if it didn't matter?
(so when you reply to this post with the reasons why, then you have the answer why it is benefitial for your site to have good PR. It brings a sort of authority to your site which is what you want!)

 

my friends site had been updated before Xmas

 

People who say PR doesn't matter are incorrect, unless they like being on page 2 of google SERP's. PR plays a part, as do many other indicators when Google rates the quality of your site and ranks in for specific terms.
