Seeing all these sad posts about low RPC from YPN I gotta say that I get more than 5x the RPC from YPN than AdSense. I've been running AdSense for quite a while and worked the CTR up quite high (blending and placement, thanks DPers). But average RPC less than $0.10, and lately down to $0.06 (I'm in a low paying niche no doubt). So I started phasing in YPN on more of my pages. Once I put YPN on some of my prime pages the CTR jumped close to what AdSense has been. And with the RPC much higher I'm a lot happier with the earnings. I'm continuing to replace more of my AdSense with YPN, at least until I get the call that I'm booted for low conversion or non-U.S. clicks or some other lame reason.
yeah... that's how I felt... for the first 2 months using YPN. I was making more than triple what I made on Google or any other program. I was waving Yahoo's flag too at that point. Now... not so much. We were so excited at the income and what it would allow us to do with our site and now we feel kinda dis-illusioned. It's actually pretty depressing. We went from about 40 cents per click to about a quarter per click. Come back in two or three months and tell us if you still feel that way about the Yahoo program. I assume that Google and Yahoo will still be the biggest earners for most publishers but I'd love to hear from people who are having equl or better success with other programs like AdBrite, TargetPoint, Clicksor, etc
You are lucky to have targeted ads I would say. I have also noticed the RPC go down over time. Good luck...
I've been running YPN since December 2005. I used to get $0.50 clicks. Now I only get $0.27 clicks, more than 5x what I get from AdSense. YPN kicks AdSense butt!
Actually, that would be interesting to see, comparison of average RPC for YPN and AS by industry. Mine is an entertainment niche, somewhat like a celebrity fan site, which I read elsewhere get low RPC from AS, like $0.05 per click, same as I'm getting. So: Celebrity fan site: AS $0.05/click, YPN $0.27/click Others?
my site category is pet industry yahoo targeting for this category is excellent. just about 100% ad relevancy on my site. i dont doubt that im still making more with yahoo than google. i prob wouldnt switch back to google anyway cuz i think they are evil! but you cant help but be a bit unhappy when your revenue drops like it has. oh well, still beats working for a living
With the eCPM rates that YPN offers, there's no doubt it'll put adsense's rates to shame. But if YPN ever leaves beta, how long do you think the rates will stick?
Hasn't this been discussed before? We all already know that YPN pays better, however, GAS (Google AdSense) has better CTR.
Google has better CTR because the ads are tagetted and related; That has been the big problem with YPN!. I believe that Yahoo pays outs more of a percentage per click than Google does. They are willing to give more to the Publisher than Google is and hopefully they will get enough advertisers to deliver tagetted ads and everyone can switch over... then and only then will Google be a little more gracious to their publishers giving them a better percentage per click.
it may not just be about a bigger cut. last I checked, there was no way for advertisers on yahoo to opt out of showing on content pages. there is in google. obviously this could have a pretty major impact on revenue per click.
Google is like not-so-perfect family home where you can go back if the going gets tough (kicked from YPN). @ the end of the day, YPN pays whole lot more for the same traffic.
The main reason YPN pays more is because their targeting SUCKS. Go to any myspace site and what do you see? Ads for mortgages and loans. If you had that kind of bad targeting with Adsense you can bet you would be getting the same earnings.
with targetting, it really depends on your niche. like i mentioned, my site is pet related and we have excellent targetting with yahoo.
For everyone who keeps saying that AS is better because of better targeted ads, YPN has a little lower CTR, but 5x the RPC, so I make about 3x the earnings with YPN compared with AS. That's for me anyway. So... YPN kicks AS butt!
125K per week? The question shouldn't be "is this true," but instead "where's Fryman with his 'smells like BS' image"...
YPN pays better in certain markets but finding those markets is the difficult part. You'll have to test by running AdSense for a few days and then switching to YPN and comparing the results. Targeting is still a MAJOR problem with YPN. Hope they'll get their act together soon or they'll not gain any market share against Google.
