I have $100 bucks to spend on directories. My site is brand new and I want to jump start things a bit. And yes I have focused my efforts on onpage seo and other types of link building. So how do I spend? I was thinking some on high PR directories like JoeAnt, some on smaller directories, and some on niche directories. Any suggestions on strategy? Also where can I find automotive niche directories?
You can find an automotive directory list at http://www.directorycritic.com/auto-directory-list.html For the rest you really are spoiled for choice, but $100 limits your choices, it will only go so far.
100$ for off page seo ? Do some free submission yourself, and keep those money for other link opportunities. If you go for paid directories, 100$ are no enough. Of course there will be people here saying that they have the suppa duppa directories on the web, but be aware and keep your eyes open. Each will recommend friends/neighbours/mommy's directory OR your PM migh be flooded by those ind**ns who are offering directory submissions. Bottom line...if only 100$ ... keep the money, and don't ask here for suggestions. Ask on a (reputable)SEO forum, not in the Directories section... where the main participants to threads are the directory owners.

I have seen the directory critic page...and it is lacking a bit. And I'm also in Yahoo Directory. But I would think $100 would buy at least 5-10 links that are valued by Google?
i would suggest to google ur main keyphrase following by the term web directory browse the top 3 pages and find what is best for you acording to money you have to spend and quality of the link you will get.
I'd check out your competitors and see if they have any free looking links you can maybe negotiate from a proper webmaster by email - you'll be amazed what you can get with a bit of effort - I recently got a PR7 link for free
Surfeasy.org is a PR3 bidding directory with good traffic looking to mainly surf the web which could apply to almost any site. It's a great way to get links to your site and improve traffic as well as rankings. Trying to help, it truly is a good directory, and good luck to your website!
I like the following directories: BOTW.org Goguides.com Domoz.org dir.Yahoo.com avivadirectory.com site-sift.com greenstalk.com
Here's some good value directories that uses PR and Alexa traffic to determine the value. Use the search to narrow the list down to just your niche to start with. Then you can branch out to some other sites that get traffic and have some PR.
You can find Automotive directories at below given as well. Check out http://info.vilesilencer.com/niche/automotive DON.
10 bucks spent at DirectoryCritic has resulted in a dramatic increase in traffic and submissions. Vmoptions runs a close second. Who knows if it will last but gonna ride the wave until it gives out and then paddle out looking for another one to ride.
I suggest sign up as an editor for JoeAnt.com and submit the sites you want for free. Keep the money for a New Years drink. Hugo
