I don't know if this is the right forum or not for this thread. Sorry, if this is the wrong place. I once read an article about blogging is death, because you have to fight with companies. Imagine if you have a investing blog, then you have to fight against websites like bloomberg, money.cnn, and other big companies. But if you are in the internet marketing niche, your enemy is not companies, but fellow blogger. What do you think? Should you stop blogging / figthing with the big names? What is your strategy in fighting those companies?
Well, Its contents fight you know not actual fight, and never see that you might compete with exists companies.
You have to provide something unique in my opinion regardless of what type of website you are running. I've found this out the hard way, several times.
You can say this about anything in life... Fact is being small also has it's advantages. I suggest you produce unique content and put in a lot of sweat... What is your blog about?
Well, you could be more specific about the niche you are marketing too. For example, shoemoney is generally a blog about everything dealing with website marketing. However, you could take it to the next level and offer some type of service that he doesn't. Perhaps you specialize in PPC and offer a service of keywords for those new website owners wanting to get into PPC. There are numerous things you can do so you aren't directly competing or you are setting yourself apart.
What I have found out is. That people like to read about someone elses personal experience. And that is the biggest advantage you have against big companies. They don't write about someones personal experience. This works for me. But not every time.
The strategy is to be unique and interesting. Personal experience and personal touches to blogging mean a lot, because you will always be different. Companies write about big scale issues and do not have the personal stories behind it.
You may be competing with other content providers to some degree but I agree with the others that personalization goes a long way to making you "better". Also because you can focus on a niche you are more valuable in terms of advertising real estate than sites that are more general in scope.. you are more targeted.
There's one big advantage to having major competition: it means there's a lot of money in the segment. I only start blogs in competitive niches.
Remember that when the market is big, then more and more member will involved themself. Therefore, blogging still have an opportunity to earn money. Anyway, the earning is not as good as previous due to more and more people involved
Your personal style of communication and your unique take on the subject is part of the appeal of blogs in the first place. Many people prefer to read blogs BECAUSE the person writing is an individual and not a big corporation, so the material has more of a personal touch. Also with a blog, there's more likelihood of interaction between the author and the readers (ie: comments, feedback, etc.)
i think the word you're looking for is not fighting but competition. anyways, i think it evens out because the more competitive a certain niche is, it's also more popular. the less competitive, less popular... so it all works out. the biggest things you need is good targeted marketing, great content and a good blog design with a build up audience. a good audience will help you by expanding itself through telling others and wahtnot. but yeah, blogging isn't easy :[
