After watching the different news agencies talk about the recent fighting between Gaza and Isreal I decided to come back to DP and see what people here had to say about. The reason being, is that it is such a multi-national site and allows you to see different perspectives from people around the world instead of being spoon fed what network news tells you. It is also nice to see people able to convey their opinions on these boards, surely from both sides of this bloody battle. I am positive we have Jewish people as well as many Muslim people using these boards, and it is so nice that they can debate their differences with their intellect instead of weapons. The world would be such a better place if all people would argue their problems out with their intellect isntead of resorting to violence. Anyways, just wanted to share my viewpoint on this, and my condolences to those who have lost anyone in the recent fighting.
this is interesting, I do not claim that I know the reason, its a combination of different things mainly such news networks from any side are owned my profitable organizations, so they are careful in what to show to their audience, they will be more likely to show what the people like to see, and prevent showing what may make them lose their audience base or part of it, I m curious to know, what new did you learn here that was not shown in media, and what you do usually to verify the validity of info posted here?
Hey imad and thanks for your response. I didn't persay learn any factual thing here as opposed to a news outlet. I mean, when it boils down to it, what exactly is news? I know in my part of the world, North America, that we receive our news with a healthy serving of corporate opinion. yes they do give us the "facts" of what happened, but are usually quick to take sides and defend one opinion over another. Little do they know a lot of us see through their bias BS and take their reports with a grain of salt. If it were not for forums, such as the one here on DP I would never hear an actual Muslims, nor Jewish persons' opinion of the events. And without that you really cannot claim to know too much. Take a court of law for example, the judge hears both sides of the story before making a decision, by reading posts on DP I can see opinions from both sides of the battle from the safe comfort of my house and form my own opinions and views of the events and reject what network news would prefer me to believe.
you are most welcome thanks for this thread its good to know that somebody there is trying to have his own opinion and do not just accept what media poor in audience minds, I myself try to do my own research and if there is anything more I can say to comment on this thread, and forgive me if you know that already - it would be that after you hear from different sides, not to take anybody's word for granted, not even mine and to do your own research.
imad, I used to do all kinds of research, and from all of my research, I found one thing. No matter what you want to find, you can find it. If you look hard enough you can probably find a good arguement that blue is actually yellow, or that using a yoyo gives you cancer. I am not longer so much interested in the "facts" of anything anymore as like I said, a fact is mearly an opinion. It is quite difficult to find a simple fact that is not laced with some form of opinion. I am now more interested in people, and their stories and views, because after all it is the people who really matter.
I don't understand why the Palestinians started throwing rockets in Israel, didn't they know Israel will retaliate, like always. Israel is so much more powerful than they are. Don't get me wrong what Israel did is also wrong. But they did warn them to stop throwing rockets or we will retaliate they actually give them 7 days to stop, but no they didn't. In Farsi and we have a saying "don't play with the lion tail"and this is what Palestine did.
Yeap. In DP we got people from variety of nations from all over the world who can express their opinions, which makes it interesting.
DP is better then the news because DP defines everything which news not defines. DP is more easier then the news.
