Have you actually read that page? It's really HORRIBLY outdated and should not really be used as any type of current reference point. The Definitive Catalog of the Web? Not by a looooooong shot. Of the billions of sites how many does the ODP actually list? They even openly state they turn back sites based on the actions of the webmasters, many of whom have fantastic sites that should be listed in anything "definitive" The Internet Brain? Yeah, yeah... Sorry, but most of those are now powered by Google which is no longer powered by the ODP... yeah, they have their clone, but now there is no indication that they care one way or another about what goes on within the bowels of the project...they even don't even bother to update their clone for sometimes a year or more. Join the Open Directory Project? Yes, join the ODP, that's what they truly want. That's why you get multiple chances to become an editor yet only one shot to submit a page.
I'm afraid you are quite right, and the same can be said for many of those public documents. This is embarrassing for editors and unhelpful for everybody. No question about that. Updating and correcting those pages is something that many volunteers have spent considerable time and effort on, but unfortunately the implementation of the changes requires action by DMOZ management and/or staff, and as yet they appear to have other priorities. All we can do is wait, and hope. Sound familiar?
DMOZ is full of corruption and nonsense, I have been scammed by a editor that sold me a domain that was listed in DMOZ. He tried to do it again but I caught on to what he was doing.
Hello dp friends, I got a great clue that I wish to share with you all. It may work or may not but it's wise to try. I did and worked. Create a page or write some article about ODP. submit your site to google, yahoo, msn and get verified (by putting their metatag codes in your header file). And then submit your site to dmoz using google directory links. Wait for 2 weeks. BASTAAA! That's what you could call it "if there is no one to open door from the front, try knocking from the back". sometime it's half open. good luck and happy holidays to you all. nkgrg SEO guy from Europe
Well done for spotting the scam! Now the next step is to ensure that such activity is not repeated, so please file a Public Abuse Report, or PM me (or jimnoble) with the details. While there is no problem with editors conducting their business activities in any way they choose, if they are abusing their positions as editors in order to make money, it is absolutely NOT tolerated. However, we do need proof (such as emails with headers etc) in order to remove such abusers.
i don't really know what the purpose of Dmoz is any more or why we all seem to struggle to get included
