Outbound link means a link pointing to a site other than your site. Inbound link means a link from an external site to your site.. And there are internal links that go from one page on your site to other pages on your site.

These answers are spot on. Get lots of inlinks from other relevant websites to your website and it should help increase your sites rankings

outbound link: a link from your website to another site or page.
inbound link: a link from another Web site to your Web site.
Inbound link is very important, it helps your SERP, it's like a vote for your website.

not necessarily true. the in-links while relevant, should have some PR and be a dofollow link to really help in your rankings.

So yes it is true! But yes also it needs to be do follow. PR is not everything my friend. I'd take a PR0 of the BBC website over a crappy PR5 blog on a dropped domain any day ;-)

Inbound links, those pointing to a site, affect ranking differently than those that leave it. Whereas Outbound link is a link to a site outside of your site. Inbound links are one way to increase a site's total PageRank whereas Outbound links are a drain on a site's total PageRank.
