I have been noticing a trend lately that people prefer not to post their link in their signature on here. I have heard about people trying to hack their site from it, and 'it does more harm than good' Can anyone shine some light on the reasoning here?
Site based on php or wordpress are safe . However some members who makes lots of money don't want to release their site .
Really? people can hack their site from the signature?? Are you sure PHP are safe? What about joomla site?
well they aren't hacking from signature, i THINK its more of a 'take out the competition' sort of thing?
Many people claim that their site was sabotaged by competitors when it was listed here. I am not sure about that. I still link my websites in my SIG.
I think also that were selling SEO were tired of getting their own sites critisized, so they unlisted? Well, okay i got the asnwers i needed. I won't sweat it!
If you say you are an expert in SEO / web design / graphics / computers / whatever, when you post, then people will loook at the sites in your sig and make fun of you. If you are going to talk smack, make fun of people, or just be a jerk, then don't have your sites in your signature. Just sell your signature in the the buy / sell section, that way the whole time your being a jerk, someone else's site will get the negative publicity
In short, anyone who has a unique idea that is making money & is easy to replicate won't post thier link here or else people will copy it. But if you have a site that has good rankings in SE, established etc & not a unique idea per se even if ur making loads of dough, its not easy to replicate, so i wouldnt worry.
Adding signature is way of promotion and adding it to for others to click and read. Make a site and hide it from others is no use. And also make proper script, any can use asp, php.
Hmm.. this has bugged (not literally) me for sometime too, but I have to see the worst tactic I've seen is members post their website on their signature but cloak it with TinyURL or something.. I seriously can't see the point of it. Simply cause if your doing it to prevent hackers, well obviously it won't and also you won't get any favor from the Google Bot because it's cloaked. Maybe there's an explanation but I just can't think of any...
This is done to allow members to see a site, but to keep search engines from picking up on the site. Think of someone selling text links - google will penalize your site if they find out. To allow people to see the site you are selling links on, without google finding it, they will use tinyurl.
Yup I know this, but you loose the best out of both worlds - 1) People can see your site, including hackers 2) Forum Posting is a recommended way of gaining inbound (do-follow/no-follow) links to your site.. It's an effective method for traffic to. However if you cloak it - SEs are left clueless..
I can't put links in my signature but when I will get that privilege I still won't do that because I don't want people to see my sites.
GOOD IDEA! Lets all have websites that we don't let other people see! We can run a contest to see who ranks lower in SERPS!
One of my Canadian site was spammed after I made a few postings. However, it was probably my bad luck. Also, I noticed that my site traffic from India increased which is not something I was looking for being that i have a Canadian site selling canadian services. Thanks.
Well most of my sites are landing pages and the only traffic I receive is from PPC so I don't really want other people to see what I'm doing. I know this doesn't contribute much to the thread but you get my point.
As for me, I joined a lot of forums and I will make sure the sites that I put in my sig are relevant to the forums that I am signing up with
