you should use some good search engine techniques to improve your site ranking... definitely you will get good ranking when you will use seo techniques..

new site always take some to to climb up to the top ranking especially in the high competition keywords. give them some time and spend more time for backlinks building will get you there.
its as easy as 1 2 3... if u know about it. but i suggest u that dont try on highly compitated keywords, and found the related keywords to ur site that search over google max 1000 to 2000 times, and when u compete these keywords then stepup to more searched keywords to find your self on top 10... the better way to find the searched keywords is GOOGLE keyword tool to find the best keywords to your site. its my personal openion, if u like it then very good. and its my own precticle and i got my site in top 5 in my keywords. good luck
Better to look unique key words,i mean use any seo tool or manually search diiferent keywords in serch engines and than add quality date about that keyword on your website or forum.
I am also still learning about it.. All I know that content is the king.. I read in forum there are several things that we need to improve our site.. content, keywords, traffic (submit url in directories, and make backlinks) as for the content we need to find the popular/trend topics.. maybe you can find it here : http://www.google.com/trends G'luck ^_^
