He inherits such a different position from any other previous President that it will probably be impossible to compare, really. People who are supporters will probably claim in future that he was, and opponents will blame him for his failure to deal as they would allegedly have liked with what he inherited.

Meanwhile, I'd think that comparatively speaking he represents a fairly high assassination-risk. Doubtless the Secret Service have stepped up their security a lot.

It's still too early to say but I hope he will be able to steer us away from this global economic crisis.

I was just about to say that and also one very important thing. There is no such thing as the Best President ever, there is only such things as the Best President for the situation in question. He inherits from Bush wars on several fronts, a global economic crisis of unprecedent severity, it won't be easy on him. But if he is able to brave them and surmount them, I can safely say he can easily be a two term President. But he mess them up, I am afraid it will be good bye next term......

I think, with the way things are now, he's inheriting a big mess both economically and with foreign policy. It could be hard for him to be remembered for anything but bad times.

Not actually, he is faced with big times but he still have one entire term to solve them and if he did solve them well he would be remembered as a great President who took the USA out of such a massive mess.

I agree. If he can somehow orchestrate a rally in an economy that has had this crisis coming for a long time, then he'll be a "great president". However, I haven't seen enough of a political track record from him to be too giddy about all the hype that has surrounded him for over a year now. We'll see, but given the times we're in, I am not optimistic.

George Washington is the father of the USA.

George Washington led the US Continental Army to victory over England in the American Revolutionary War (1775–1783).

Washington presided over the Philadelphia Convention that drafted the United States Constitution in 1787 and was the first President of the United States of America (1789–1797) creating many of the institutions that the US has today.

One thing that I know, no US president can be worse than Nixon. For Obama, it's too early to say. Let him take charge and in a year we will have a clear picture..

Nixon was a great president. He withdrew US forces from Vietnam with a policy of "vietnamization". The policy would have worked but for the rapid anti-nixon politics.

Nixon should be considered a great president for opening the door to China, Détente and the SALT treaties with the Soviet Union.

Nixon created the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), promoted the Legacy of parks program, and implemented the Philadelphia Plan, the first significant federal affirmative action program.

IMHO I would be more agreeable if you substitute Nixon for Bush :) . Obama has a great advantage of only having to do better than Bush, which is not a difficult thing to do.....

As much as it hurts to agree with bogart, he is right. Drunk dick was a good politician and president. Part of his talent was to choose the right men for the job, for example despite being an anti-Semite, he chose a Jew (Henry Kissinger) to be the secretary of state who was the force behind many of his successes. :)

Nixon made a lot of salty remarks but I don't beleive that he was an anti-semite.

He inherits a great deal of good policy that will no doubt ring in several benefits both economically and with regard to our national security. Assuming he stays on track and continues to stay the course set in motion, and does NOT raise taxes, he stands to benefit much like Clinton did post 92 recession.

If he takes a Carter approach to the economy and our military, then he's gonna be right there with Jimmy on the list of the worst of the worst.
