    2283 concert tickets were sold for a total of $17829.
    If students paid $6 and nonstudents paid $9, how many student tickets were sold?

    (i'm trying these after i type them and checking my answers with what you guys get )

    Number of tickets sold to students = x
    Therefore non student tickets = 2283-x
    Total collection = 6x + 9 (2283-x) = 17829
    20547-3x = 17829
    3x= 2718

    x= 906

    use the differences to find a pattern in the sequence..

    8,9,19,43,86,153,249

    Assuming that the pattern continues, the 8th term should be?

    Edit
    yeah it is 379.
    make 2 pairs of differences between those numbers. That will get your answer as 379

    2. A textbook is opened and the product of the page numbers of the two facing pages is 6162. What are the numbers of the pages?

    3. On a balance scale, three die and four jacks balance 18 marbles. Also, one jack balances one die and one marble. How many marbles will balance one die?

    4. In a very strange world, one giraffe weighs the same as two frogs, two ostriches weigh the same as one lion and three lions weight the same as one giraffe. How many ostriches does it take to weigh the same as one frog?

    Yes, 344 is correct. Think of it as:
    (147 + 198) - 1 = 344
    Code (markup):
    and yes this was hard...

    Right

    3d+4j=18m
    1j=1d+1m

    Therefore

    j=(1m+1d)

    3d+ 4(m+d) = 18m

    or

    7d = 14m

    For text boox question , you will need a quadratic equation

    x (x+1) = 6162

    x(x) +x + 1 =6162

    x(x) + x -6161 = 0

    78,79 is the answer.

    Checkerboard has

    8sq+7sq+6sq......+1sq = 64+49+36+25+16+9+4+1 = 204 squares.

    (Difficult to explain , but you can see the pattern if you draw squares on paper.Start with 2x2 square, then draw 3x3 square... you will see how number of squares increase)

    There are 100 lockers in a row and 100 students. The first student starts at locker 1 and opens all the lockers. The second student starts at locker 2 and opens or closes every other locker (locker 2,4..). The third student starts at locker 3 and opens or closes every third locker (locker 3,6..). This pattern continues for all 100 students.

    1. After all students are done, which lockers are left open?
    2. If we added another 100 students (lockers 101-200) which would be the next locker open?
    3. Using the idea from #2 above (lockers 101-200) which would be the last locker open?

    Ok, if you believe the crap you kids are putting up is challenging, check this out:

    Sequences/Series... (algorithms)

    Give me the next three (3) terms to the sequence:
    0.2, 81.022, 918.048, 71,872.12, ___, ___, ___ ...

    Code (markup):
    Tempt wisdom and... well, pretty much fail, but if you do manage to solve it, I will reward you! (and it will be big)
