Free Image Editing Software?

    Hi.
    I was wondering if anyone knew of any free image editing software?

    I used to use Fireworks 8 but my computer got wiped and I lost the CD, so can't use that anymore.

    I only need to do basic things, set dimensions for pictures, add a couple of gradients, that sort of thing. Please don't suggest paint. I need it slightly more advanced than that ;)

    Gimp is free, compared to photoshop by some.

    Why not give http://www.paint.net/ a try, it is no frills no thrills but should be able to edit images quite well.
