I been watching the Digitalpoint Spy feature and I was blown away by the amount of spelling mistakes in a LOT of threads. Let alone, the spelling in thousands of posts. I can't help myself but be in awe of it. It sticks out like a sore thumb. What ways would you guys suggest to help improve the spelling for threads and posts? Col
I don't think there is anything you can do to improve spelling. *removed*, I didn't mean to offend anyone.
We could encourage them to use firefox, it seems to have a built in spell checker (if typers aren't lazy to right click and fix) Or Maybe they're trying to type in text messaging styles and inventing their own ways of typing the sentences or words out PS: This reply's typed in Opera with no auto spell check. Any spelling errors're not my fault.
You can ask the members who are Inkreddubble in Shpelling to spell check every time before posting. But what about the grammar mistakes?
as long as they can type, without grammar mistakes, in own 1st languages, they'll be fine we shouldn't be strict on those or you never know with people these days, they may start "discrimination strikes" for telling them to fix grammar mistakes haha
I never said I thought everyone in Australia could spell everything right. My comment was based on the mass amount of users who have problems with grammar etc. and based on my experiences at DP a lot of them have been Indian. This is also why I don't think spell check would make a big difference as a lot of it is grammar. Then again I don't have a problem with it as I can understand it most of the time.
Firefox is the best option for those whose SHPELLING isn't correct. But they can learn from others too. Regarding the India or the Australia.. Every country has few people whose language may not be english. But u can't blame the entire country for that friends... -Xak
Well upcoming Opera 10 which is under testing have Auto Spell check which I am using. So Opera will come out with this option in next official version.
There seems to be a massive surge of members from countries where english may not be the fave language, so its to be expected. Personally i think a handful are taking the piss in order to appear clueless so that you fall over yourselves to help them. But for the genuine ones, just be patient till they improve their english. Apologies if theres any spelling mistakes in my post.
How about this? Any post where you don't approve because of faulty grammar and/or spelling, you simply ignore, disregard as if it never came? That way, we leave everybody to go on express their freedom of speech and expression, however they are able to, in their own style? On the other hand, when you notice the flaw in grammar or spelling, that is an indication that you have at least understood and could react to the message, then you can kindly call the attention of the writer to do it better next time. If the message is starkly incomprehensible, why don't we ask for some clarifications? For all we know, one may have decided to enrol with DP not just to show how good he is able to write, but also to learn better skills from other forummers who know better.
I used to think this, too, when I first came here and was so disappointed by some of the spelling and grammar. But I've slightly changed my mind about it now. The reality is that anyone who wants to present a better online image of themselves can choose to do things like this, if they wish. Some do and some don't. There's arguably some value, though, in being able to see at a glance which posters are either literate/educated or willing to make some presentational effort in this direction, and which aren't. One can always choose whose posts to read, after all.
Guys! Don't get me wrong. I am not whinging or complaining...just asking for ideas to see if we can improve it so all can benefit by some really good posting.
But how can they ban themselves ?!, Would they go online then ban themselves or ban themselves while online or maybe they'll ban themselves then go online
