It totally depends on the sites optimization... Not very sure if you are referring to PageRank or you are referring to Search Engine Ranking...

Page Rank mainly depends on the number of back links.... while search engine ranking depends on both on-site as well as off-site optimization....

I've seen pages crop up in 2 hours but listings do fluctuate. It is best to monitor on a weekly basis and work from there. If you have no backlinks then it will take a while for google to find your site, so drop your link on many well visited pages blogs and other things to get the process started.

Create a sitemap and submit it at google webmaster central.. will take only 2 days for your site to get indexed.

Once your site is crawled, as long as there are not any problems with your sites structure, then it will be indexed within hours. Now where it is indexed is a different explanation. Your site's index location is all according to your on page/ off page optimization.

If you're talking about your site simply appearing in Google searches, social bookmarking your index page can get your site listed in minutes/hours.

if you're going to optimize, build links, etc. you can make it within 48 hours.. Of course, experts can make that happen in less than 12 hours (thats why they're experts)... but, believe me i've read that a few sites got to the front page within 1 day

There is NO thumb rule for this. Take DP for example, a new thread created 15 minutes back right now must be ranking for its title but there may be a thread as old as 4 years may not be ranking. Crawling, indexing and ranking are all different.

It depends if you are building back links to it at all.
