i see plenty of sites thats using custom search engine to find rapidshare, warez, and porn.....how do these go undetected ? ex. searchshared.com
I don't think its ilegal to find rapidshare using google. That custom searches that you point, finally just use google to find some material indexed by Google. I think its not again TOS.
Anyone can search any site they want in Google by using the site: command after there keyword.. Setting up a CSE to search a particular site is not against there TOS, if it were, then they would not give you the option to do it when creating a new CSE. If you choose to set up a CSE that searches a particular warez site, and Google bans the warez site from its index, then I guess your CSE will no longer work. If you were to set up a CSE that searches a particular warez site, and then "promote" it as a way to find "illegal" content, then I think you may run into some problems... (but I am not 100% sure) If you set up a CSE to search a particular warez site, and promote it as a way to search for "information" contained within that site, then It should be OK. I have a rapidshare search engine, and I have made it quite clear that its not intended to be used as a way of finding illegal or pirated content. But I have no control over what people use it for, and I don't think it is any of my business. Cheers James
No. I already spent yesterdays earnings... on a cup of coffee. Having a CSE based site is not going to make a lot of money unless you are getting millions of visitors a month. And if you are getting millions of visitors a month, then server costs will also rise. My site has a current Alexa rank under 50k... I get over 100k visitors a month, and over 20k searches are done every day using the CSE. On a good day, I make enough to buy 2 cups of coffee. Making money from the site was not my main intention, I built the site for fun, and the coffee is just a bonus. Cheers James
Pop ups are annoying and would only make people want to leave the site and not return. I haven't heard of intersyial. Like I said above, I made the site for fun, and hope people find it useful. If the site ever started getting over a million visitors a month, then I will look at other ways of monetizing it. For now, I am happy that people are using it. Cheers James
