Why Mohammad didn't learn the alphabet. If he only learned on letter a day (it would take a few minutes to remember it) and in two months at the most he would have learned it, and in one more he would have learned how to read. (For example I made an experiment with my kid almost 2 years old and now it knows already a few letters and points at them everywhere it sees them.) So if he wanted to learn it most likely he would have learned it. I know some muslims will say, at that time education was not for everybody. But, if a teaching is supposed to be good for hundreds and thousands of years ahead don't you think he should give an example to others that he himself was an educated man and thus his followers will be encouraged to get educated? Also a person who knows how to read and write can get wisdom through education. The one who doesn't know the alphabet has to rely on what he hears from others only. I believe if a teaching doesn't make you smart, healthy and rich (in their best meanings) does not have much value to me. Now we see people in almost 98% muslim nations living in very poor conditions, and having very low educational levels. I've read an article about Afghanistan that many people in the villages don't know how to read and write. The Talebans tell them "go work in the field, Mohammad was not educated you don't need to be one to go to heaven". It is obvious to everyone these days that without education one almost certainly will be poor and will have a life with endless troubles and difficulties. So what is this that stopped Mohammad of learning the alphabet? Why he didn't need to learn it? Please keep the discussian fair without insults. Thanks,
Dear Truth777, Who said it to you that Muhammad (P.B.U.H.) was not educated? Infact he was highly educated and on that time education was not counted by the number of degrees one has. Islam had emphasized on education a lot. You referred to Talebans here. Talebans are terrorists that everyone knows. They can only kill innocent peoples and thats all. They have nothing to do with education and they force peoples not to study. Because educated person will think with brain before doing anything, which they don't want.

Had not the Grace of Allâh and His Mercy been upon you (O Muhammad PAPBUH), a party of them would certainly have made a decision to mislead you, but (in fact) they mislead none except their own selves, and no harm can they do to you in the least. Allâh has sent down to you the Book and the wisdom, and taught you that which you knew not. And Ever Great is the Grace of Allâh unto you. The Wisdom of God caused the prophet to be grown as illiterate, so that the claim of those who say "Mohammad was copying from different scriptures to make the Quran" is cut off from the begining. Also to be a clear sign for the revelation of the Mighty Quran and It is the Word of God and that Mohammad is his massenger. 48. Neither did you (O Muhammad PAPBUH) read any book before it (this Qur'ân), nor did you write any book (whatsoever) with your right hand. In that case, indeed, the followers of falsehood might have doubted. 51. Is it not sufficient for them that We have sent down to you the Book (the Qur'ân) which is recited to them? Verily, herein is mercy and a reminder (or an admonition) for a people who believe. 52. Say: "Sufficient is Allâh for a witness between me and you. He knows what is in the heavens and on earth." And those who believe in falsehood, and disbelieve in Allâh, it is they who are the losers.
It's very logical that Mohamed was uneducated. Cause an educated person is much less likely to throw stones to someone else to death.
or better to say that the ignorant people are those who do adultery in public while they are concious and are married. and more ignorant are those who defend them and give them rights. Only respected people who fight against such behaviour.
FYI English is not the only language. Take the example of Russia. They don't speak English. It is true that some muslims consider and are of the notion that speaking English is pro American or not speaking English is anti- US. Giving a very bad example and a worst case scenario in any debate is never doing any good. Yeah, i am talking about your reference to taliban as muslims.
I respect and appreciate Truth777 for his/her curiosity. TBH, it depends what you mean by "uneducated". If you take that in its normal literal context uneducated means lacking in knowledge. So this springs another question: what type of knowledge? We (Muslims) believe PM(SAW) was illiterate, but was VERY wise. He possessed knowledge that carries more weight than mere tangible, or ordinary things... The Holy Quran, The light of the world. I wont go into much detail.
