    Hi,
I wanted to know, what kind of weightage do I get if I get links from various subdomains of a website?

    Thanks

it's the same as if it's from the domain name. But is is more likely, the homepage get highest pagerank because it has more pages linking to it.

Are you sure that's true? I always thought a link from the main page was much valuable than one from a page several levels deep.
Also I've read that backlinks are worth more if they are located towards the top of a page and if they're one of just a couple of links on the page vs one of hundreds.

    Hi,
As much as I know, subdomains are considered as different domains by google. So for eg. If you have links from 100 sub blogs on wordpress, you would get links as if they were from 100 sites. Just wanted to make sure i am right ;)

    Thanks

Keep it in moderate number for backlinks from one site. It should be a treshold number (only G knew it). Once you pass that number, it doesnt counted anymore.

Yes somewhat but ulitmately it is same as the backlinks from inner pages ( not from deep links). i.e getting links from 3rd level category is less than getting links from sub domain but same as from 1st level category.

The main domain name holds the most weight. Since the domain is linked to the subdomian it transfers some of its PR to the other pages. The PR site page structure is as follows.

Home Page - (Top PR Rank)
All main pages - (Less PR than Home Page)
above-level sub pages from main pages - (Less PR than main & home pages)
subpages from subpages - (Less PR than main, home, & above-level subpages pages)
    so on ...

You can build a higher PR on subpages by getting links to those specific pages. Most sites do not like to do that.

I use the PR tool for IE and Fire Fox to tell me how much PR each page has. I have found that most times the subpages have little or no PR, especially the further down the site page structure.
