One of my site got listed. I submitted it about 4 years ago. It about a year get listed. I think it just takes time. Just provide very accurate descriptions when submitting.

Better off just getting a link from BOTW and be done with it.

Wow... that's interesting! I truely believe the internet is still the wild west in many ways. Btw, I'm referring to the comment about editors from DMOZ charging to submit sites.

the general rule is SUBMIT AND FORGET, though you could likely FORGET TO SUBMIT and your wait time could potentially be the same. Many editors do NOT check the submission queue, some others treat it as a BLACKLIST. I say MANY and SOME, not ALL, so that is important. It really depends on the editor. Some strictly go by the submission queue *shrug*

Getting listed in DMOZ is a crapshoot and it's best to not give them any more time or effort then any other directory.

    Good answer!

Actually it's NOT against their rules, so long as you are not treating your site any differently from any other site. Not only that, look up TOPIX in the directory. Over 10K listings and all of them belong to a single editor (skrenta).

BOTW does not accept blogs... From TOS

The site is not a weblog or "blog."

I wonder how strict that rule is... many sites out there use WordPress as an easier alternative for content management. Many of them in no way resemble a "blog" in the sense of being a weblog, though by rights they are a "blog" because of the format they have chosen.

I can see my journal not being accepted, I can see a series of entries based on like other articles or something... but a standalone site that simply is formated with WP, blah. I wonder if they allow CMPS "blogs" lol *shrug*

We don't list blogs in the Web Directory. Instead we built a whole Blog Directory to list blogs.

DMOZ is dead.....its impossible to get your site listed if your in the US anymore...and impossible to become an editor! I heard you can bribe people though!

The bummer is that many sites pull from the DMOZ directory!

    Hi,

This is my first post. I was thinking of submitting one of my sites to DMOZ, but the only thing is, is that it's actually an online article creation site that creates unique articles and includes spinning etc. It's a new site.

Would this be a bad idea? With it being about spinning articles? or would they not include sites related to article creation / spinning?

    Thanks

    Andy

dmoz is crap in my eyes.

The whole system is fucked up because the editors of many areas are just there to keep competition OUT.
Yea a lot of categories got many editors, most of them are probably in the business of their category or inactive.

I know very good websites that were submitted a few times over months and never got included.
I have no proof but I am very sure that many editors are not there to do good for DMOZ, they just want to do the best for their websites.

I submitted my site 2 times or more but got rejected. I will only submit the site again when I'm ready.

I never submitted to them and they added 2 of my 9-10 year old domains 1-2 years ago without me doing a thing. I did submit one site in 2006 and never have seen a thing. SO I just never tried again and just hope they somehow find my good sites. Also I know that editors help out their friends online ;)

Ummm all web pages are web logs, hence where the name blog came from

    web log

So to have a separate area was kind of an oxymoron...

You can get listed in DMOZ only if you are listing in a category where competition and such doesn't matter. You will almost NEVER get into a shopping category because the editor is a webmaster of a Shopping site in the same category.
If you even get in after the year it takes to get in there, by the time you spent all those months doing other quality link building then DMOZ has done nothing for you.
