I am interested to see some of the responses here. If you had the opportunity would you. a). buy a website that has a decent user base and over 10000 UV per month or b.) create a website customize everything yourself and use the money to advertise and market your site. What would you do?

It depends on your skills and the amount of cash you have. Time is valuable. If I had enough cash and it would be a profitable investment, I'd rather pay someone else to have done the work.

I agree, it depends on the time you have and the amount of cash you can use on this project. But generally speaking, I would have done everything myself.

This way, you have 100% control, and it's all yours. You can be really proud of everything you have accomplished. Usually, you'll need to learn a lot as well.

So, for a long term invest, I would have done as much as possible for myself. If it's short term, like site flipping, you might consider paying for it.

I agree with both of you that you want it to be your own, but what if the design and content is something you really like?

If you are comfortable with most of the content, and you really like the design, and the price is ok, I would go for it :)

I'm a believer in buying a site that has done the groundwork so you can focus your energy on marketing and growing the site. The groundwork often takes lots of time and can be the most frustrating part because you are working without pay.

Building a website from scratch and bringing traffic to it is a hard work. If I have money to spend, I definitely buy the existing website.

For me it would depend on cost. If the site had quality content and could be expanded I would buy one. Building a site to the point where you get 10000 uv per month takes some time.

If you have the money, buy the existing one.

If you really want the "baby" to be fully yours, start one from scratch.

I'd definitely buy the existing website if the price is right, and then I'd further enhance and promote it.

Great responses all around. Well it turns out the website was priced way too high and it was using wordpress . So I am going to create my own so I can make it how I want.
