I did get word today that the circuit was done being installed this morning. I'm hoping to get all the equipment physically in the data center this week. Just need to coordinate the move (getting people to help, etc.)
Just so people realize, this is a considerable amount of power at any data center. We are not HUGE, but any means, but getting both more power to the data center, and adding more power for a customer does take time. We added another 800 AMPs last year as our needs have continued to grow and it was a MAJOR undertaking! http://home.mia.net/~jeremy/powerupgrade/ My advice... Be patient!
When it comes to spending any amount over $50, I don't spend easily. But the decision to donate $500 for this worthy cause was a no brainer. Of course, the added incentive of the free ad was very enticing, no doubt. DP is an excellent resource that I use almost every day, from checking the progress of my mission critical keywords/keyphrases, to keeping up with the latest happenings with Y! and G. I always seem to find myself linking to a DP post from one of my blogs. Yep, good stuff. I've learned a great deal just by hanging out in these forums and absorbing all the great tips and advice from all the smart members who post here. I'm confident that DP will only get better with time, under Shawn’s stewardship, of course . I encourage anyone and everyone to donate whatever you can. When you think about it, it’s easy to invest in something that’s constantly giving back. The new equipment looks great! My 2 workstation / 3 server network I have running here seems like a 80's technology in comparison. Shawn: I may want to add another link to your donors page. Is 2x donations = 2x links acceptable? RSVP whenever. AmCy A shameless horse-trader
Cool. I've donated $2,000 in total, a challenge of sorts: who's going to beat me as the top donor? AmCy
Are the boards on the new server yet??!! Right now it looks like the server has been drinking booze!!!
Was waiting for new version of MySQL to move the forums to the new server... but it's out now, and when I get back from Costa Rica, that will be something that happens next week.
The blade servers have all been upgraded to latest version of MySQL, PHP and eAccelerator, and the forum is now using the blades for it's db cluster.
Nice upgrade shawn We could see the message while the upgrade process was going on : I really had to Sit Tight
Couldn't do it any faster, sorry... had to push about 2GB of data to 4 different servers (4 servers in the DB cluster).
i wonder what are the confurgation of the server ? Powering these kinds of forums need Xenon technology i bet that it is Xenon.
Actually total it's: 40 x 2.8Ghz Xeon CPUs 20 x 146GB (15,000 rpm SCSI drives) 120GB RAM 2 load balancers http://www.shawnhogan.com/2006/06/this-is-what-blade-servers-look-like.html Of course not all of it is used just for the forum... it's way overkill for what's needed for redundancy and load balancing (and so we don't have to upgrade anytime soon). You can see what's already running on new servers over here.
Well ofcourse over at runuo.com boards and 6 game servers with irc etc we use simillar configs Good to have machines under your hands you must be proud of your self
Nothing really to be "proud" of to be honest... users donated most of the money for them... http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/donate.html
