Interesting as i also thought it had been abandoned:
If any one has tested that statement already it would be interesting to see the results. I would strongly consider ditching my phproxy to gain full javascript.

I don't know what kind of server you would need for CGIProxy to be a realistic option. I already have a pretty high-spec VPS (4.0GHZ dedicated, 2GB Ram) but I didn't want to compromise other sites by setting up a CGIProxy.

good ad positioning, good traffic and extremely low ctr for adsense... anyone else experiencing similar results here in the last days?

Well a VPS is not even the same game as a dedicated. You can be limited in so many ways that your 4ghz number is now worthless.

Even though it is well known for cgiproxy to enjoy using resources if you visit the changelog you will see alot of references to performance improvement since the last major release in 2006. That is an awfully long time in terms of software, imagine the improvements alone in his coding since 2006. Things may have changed therefore it is a good time to review it to see if it is a realistic option. But i still feel full javascript support to be a pretty big advantage which would more than make up for any (unrelated) resource usage increase.

"it just works" is a pretty good selling point for your proxy.

It is almost xmas eve (a matter of hours for some). This proxy season is drawing to a end rapidly. To be honest, that was a pretty silly question to ask. Wait for 2009 :D

it wasn't that silly. i know it's holiday. my question is: traffic is reasonable for this time but ctr is very low although ads are positioned well...? do you experience low ctr as well?

It was silly, it was silly because traffic changes HUGELY over this period.

Who do you think is going to use your proxy today? Returning users or new users? Users on a mission or users killing some time? Would this affect the CTR? Yes i think so. Your traffic source will be totally different and this will affect your CTR.

I do not track CTR only earnings, and yes my earnings are down.

Some may be up others mostly will be down, if what you had was not was NOT a single fluke $x click then:
the above still stands, traffic sources (audience?) change drastically, this is going to effect people in different ways mostly with less traffic. Congrats that you had a "successful" day! I had a unsuccessful day with only $16.07 ;)

Probably the wrong time of year to launch a new proxy but I have gorne and done it anyway.

    The prixy site is https://www.prox-lock.com/
I am also woundering how to get my google ads to use HTTPs so that it doesn't throw up any errors about the page being partially encrypted. I am also curious about what you guys think about the ad placement.

Hum i don't think that you need to focus on SEO but i have to say that:
the name zero-trace is good but not with "-".
no - no _ will be beter in your domain name.

Second you have to get redundant traffic, post on the most blog you can whatever if they are no-follow links post on yahoo answer, google group and yahoo group, answers.com and so on. Proxies are words of mouth... somebody like yours so it tell about it to another friend and another and ... you catch the trick.

So keep working hard on fast traffic instead of getting the ranking technique who can get you into a race of many month or years.

Second for the ad placement: the first thing i see is "your" banner and not the ads try to put much more work in it to get the best CTR possible.

Finaly don't buy .info for your main site, or buy it with all others domains .net .org .whatever to avoid someone getting your main site domain with the .com who is usualy more easily to remember than an .info

Hope this information will be helpfull

www.surfree.info was created using the latest version of that CGI proxy and my advise is STAY CLEAR of it. It put 25% more load than previous version.
Gonna change my site to use glype soon.

Hi i have a question just yesterday i changed my server ip after every site on the first ip stoped working. Today my sites load fast, my server load is low, ping is low. So when going to my proxy site it loads fast BUT when trying to browse it takes forever.

What do you think the problem can be? let me know thanks!

This can be due to many factor, for example the script of your proxy and the concurrent user of your proxy at that time.
By the way,if you plan to make your proxy surfing fast, you can set a limit on how many user can use your proxy at any given time.

Anyone with IwhiC? My VPS has been down for the last 18 hours or so, I'm trying to get them to do something but they keep saying 'We'll get back to you'. Really disappointing, IwhiC have been great until now. I'll make sure to get a refund for the months hosting..

Are your name servers updated to the new ip address? I know when my name servers have been a bit off that things work, but they are slow loading. You could try a different script like glype (glype.com) its free and is (in my experience) better and faster and more compatible then php proxy anyway. Although it doesnt sound like the script is the problem.

You could try to restart all the services and the server just for good measure, but to me it sounds like a name server issue.
