Does anyone know of a good script to use for a search feature within a website? I've tried the Google Internal Site Search Script II, but looking for something cleaner to match the look of the site.
I too have been looking around at the various search scripts available. To be honest, I'm still looking but if I don't find something by New Year I'm going to buy the Zoom Pro Edition from Wrensoft(.com). It costs $99 but indexes up to 200,000 pages including .pdf documents which is what I need and what is lacking in many other scripts. Would rather pay much less than $99 but sometimes you have to spend a few bucks to get exactly what is required. Their free and standard versions are a little 'small' for my requirements but I might try their free version first on another site first to see what the script is like. Good luck with your 'search for a search'. Post a follow up if you find something good and I'll do the same. Happy New Year! Scotty
I've tried this in the past. http://www.picosearch.com/cgi-bin/i...arch-addrein&gclid=CJaauZLd4ZcCFQsMGgodIzdoBw There both free ad supported function and a paid service
PicoSearch looks pretty good river, but the free service has even less of the features I need than Wrensoft's free script. At $249 per year their Pro plan is just too expensive and at $498 yearly the Premium plan is just a rip off.
Thanks for the input so far. Will check them out. I agree with you Scotty, hate to spend even $99, which isn't possible right now. Will let you know if I find any other solutions. Checking out the other ones mentioned... Happy New Year!
Thanks khena25, Google Custom search is free for non-profits or if you include Google adsense, which I didn't want to include for this particular site. That is a good option though. After trying several other types of seach codes - javascript, perl, I finally found one that works seamlessly, no ads, free, and easily customizable! It's called Sphider - http://www.sphider.eu/index.php - uses php with database, which I'm much more familiar with anyhow than perl. Also has an easy to use admin where page indexing can be customized. Hope this helps others and thanks for all the suggestions!
