Six Brits have been arrested in Turkey for playing a charity game of bingo, reports The Telegraph.

The game was organised to raise money to pay the medical expenses for an expat recently diagnosed with cancer.

Turkish authorities, however, viewed it as unregulated gambling and took 15 Britons to the local police station for questioning. Six were detained and later slapped with a £55 fine.

Pauline Ellington, who was at the Pyramid Bar to meet friends for a drink, said of the incident: "I hope I don't get a criminal record for playing bingo. We have been hauled out of there as if we are common criminals.

"Some of us thought it was part of the entertainment on the night before the police began asking for our passports. It is disgusting as the night was for a good cause."

Jacqui Zyane, one of the Brits questioned, added: "I couldn't believe it when the police came in through the doors and began questioning people about their ID. But it seems they had come because bingo was allegedly being played.

"The night had been organised for a special purpose and this is what happens. I am very, very angry."

Since gambling is not allowed by law, it includes any game involving money exchange no matter the cause. When you are in a different country you need to abide by their laws, no shocker. Besides it's not like they were severely punished, £55 and there you go.
