Why dont you all put together some useful information and post only the GOOD points somewhere so that others can actually understand what to do and what not. May be do some polling about browsers. Or put all the valuable information + proof of whatever you think is good or bad. There is a wiki site I created months ago - browsinghabits.com .. I had thought that I did put up some good information about browsers there but since I do not have much knowledge of browsers, the site is just there doing nothing. By the way, I have been using FF and Konqueror. Ever heard of Konqueror? I think it is good and does not have so many security holes. I think there are around 30 web browsers but since everyone is just madly sticking to IE, FF, Opera, Safari, Chrome, Netscape .. very few people actually know about other good browsers. Anyone like to put some useful information on the wiki? Regards, Andy.
God I'm tired of such ignorant comments such as "Microsoft sucks" and "Firefox rules"... . I use and like them both. A con each: I have 3 opened to surf the web and test my websites (I got a four monitor setup) and Firefox is a memory hog (Using the latest 3.0.5). IE is a pain for all those designers out there because it renders websites so differently. I have to constantly make sure it looks just as good as it does in FF. BTW, my friend just got a virus lately and he only uses FF. FF is not 100% virus proof as some assume.
I enjoy some of the things Microsoft has done (Xbox mainly), but at the same time I dispise too many things to list here (Windows, mainly). I wish that this sploit would change the way people look at the browsers, but the fact is that most people who are using IE still have no idea about the vulnerability, and won't ever find out about it either. After the patch is released IE will still maintain its 85% lead over all other browsers.
I don't have to switch, coz I have been using firefox for a long time, and recently I use google chrome more than firefox. Try google chrome. It's faster.
Each one has their strengths. Part of the reason this security breach happened in IE is because hackers target IE because it has a majority of the market share. In particular, it has the vast majority of browser users who are barely computer literate. If another browser was ever to take over, it would be assaulted with the same intensity that IE is being attacked with now.
I know that Firefox and Opera are making updates beacuse they also became a target of hackers. I am sure that Microsoft will do something about it too. Many people (specially in UK) uses IE. And I really don't know why....?
They may try but IE is so poorly coded and integrated with the OS, it is far more vulnerable to attacks than any other browser. So the success rate on other browsers would be significantly lower making all other browsers much safer than IE could ever hope to be.
FINALYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!! ups sorry this was emotional , didnt read all posts , but i know that i will be one happy developer if no one uses IE6 ... IE7 ... maybe just 2-3% of all users
You can add me to the list of happy developers. But Microsoft package it together in their systems and those who just use the PC out of the box will normally use Internet Explorer without question.
many people use IE, but sometime IE have mistake ,i.e. A few days ago, when I open google with IE , enter letters, the page will automatically shut down
Firefox will never take over even though I've been using it since it came out and just for the record chrome is more security flawed than any browser which is why it'll never be used in commercial locations. IE had it's monopolistic run but I think it's time that other people have their turn. Long Live Microsoft!
Over the last 4 years, since Firefox came out, it's captured 25% of IEs marketshare with no advertising. You show no source to support your claim but IE has more vulnerabilities than ALL other browsers added together. In addition, Chrome should be coming out on OEM PCs sometime this year as the default installation. Chrome is also used as the default browser at Google right now. You like to contradict yourself.
Saying IE is dead is too much! IE is still alive and it will be much more better in time. Microsoft didn't tell to switch, they said to set security level high.
Where Microsoft tells to switch? Where? There's a security advice. MICROSOFT SECURITY ADVICE: * Change IE security settings to high (Look under Tools/Internet Options) * Switch to a Windows user account with limited rights to change a PC's settings * With IE7 or 8 on Vista turn on Protected Mode * Ensure your PC is updated * Keep anti-virus and anti-spyware software up to date
