    Hi,

I rank really well on MSN for a lot of my keywords but dont recieve that much traffic from there, but I cant seem to get ranked well on Google for a lot of my keywords, I still get about 30k uniques a month from them but I could get lot more if I could just get ranked a bit better.

Any advice? I do well on MSN as I say but not on Google and I hardly get any traffic on Yahoo or Altavista and its confusing me =\

    Thanks

Its hard to give advice without looking at your site. The most important factor for Google is to have Fresh Content for your site.

Do post your site here so that more people can give you better suggestions :)

Its actually an adult site so I cant.

But I update daily, what I am most interested in is getting my galleries ranked well in Google, they are indexed in Google but nowhere to be seen on the rankings.

Site is PR5, 28k alexa, 40k uniques a day, very established site, as I say I do well on MSN but not on the others :(

If that's what you want, then you might want to search this forum for image SEO. I have given some advice on how to optimize images for Search Engines from time to time.

The main point to note is that you should have a unique alt attribute with every images. Name the images with descriptive names.

The most commonly encountered problem is that many webmasters do not put in enough content in their galleries. Remember that Search Engine indexes mainly content. Try adding some descriptive text on the galleries and allocate keywords in the appriopriate places such as <H1> and <B>.

    Hope it helps :)

I use the alt tag but have the same keyword on them all as they are all basically the same person.

As for content, I have text on the galleries as they are promoting something so I use my keyword a few times.

If you want I can pm you an url to one, its not safe for work tho.

    Thanks

if the site is PR 5, it should come in rankings for some KWs. Are the internal pages URLs Search Engine Friendly? Try optimizing your home page for more KWs.

Thanks, I just read that and it said

I tend to do that, put my keyword in the title, in a header tag and as my anchor text when someone links to it, thats a bad thing to do?

Whenever I do a search for something a lot of the sites tend to do that?

Yeap, this is actually good advice. Also, try adding a blog. If G wants fresh content, then blogs are a great way to approach this problem.. all you have to do is write, write and write !:)
If you dont want to use blogs then try a content management system and get some articles about your tgp category...

Is your website quite new? if yes... then you may suffer by the "sandbox effect"

If its a new site, I believe you will need to wait at least three months before you will see any progress on Google (if you are lucky). While you are waiting keep working on good relavant inbound links. :)

Exactly, Google bases it's results highly on the age of the domain and inbound links while MSN doesn't worry about this so much.

I definitely do the best on MSN. I think MSN gives much more of a chance to have good sites/content do well and doesn't take into account "age" of the site. My only problem with Google is it updates so infrequently and you really have to have a well established site to do well... Sometimes this is a positive, but other times it means their results aren't as fresh.

If a big event happens and I put up a page about it (Maybe the 2006 MTV Music Awards) it seems like I can get much traffic from MSN within a week, whereas Google will still be displaying information from the previous years...

The nice thing, though, is once you get a good ranking in Google, you are likely to keep it much longer...

    That's just from my experience.
