What strategy do you use for blog commenting?

Am interested in the way people comment on blogs, for the purpose of gaining backlinks.
Do you make a note of every URL you have commented on (so you can later check to see if it was approved)? Or do you comment then forget it and move on?

Just wondering if people are recording and monitoring every comment they make for link building, and every site they have commented on?

Sometimes I keep track of comments because I client has paid for a certain number of links, but for my own personal sites I don't bother. I think there's much better things to use your time for then tracking every single blog comment. Blog commenting is part of my daily routine but not something I want to spend any more time than I already do on. Monitoring every single comment here or there seems like a waste.

Thanks for that. I can see your point on not logging every comment you make. After all, backlink checker tools tell you if your comment was counted as a backlink!
Can I just ask, do you care if you comment on a nofollow or dofollow blog? Obviously dofollow is best, but is there still much value on getting relevant but nofollow backlinks?
    Thanks.

Commenting in dofollow blogs I think is much more productive than commenting on nofollow ones. you can find dofollow blogs with interesting content enough to drop relevant comments on and at the same time gaining counted links.

I know some people find this strategy unethical, but I have spent a lot of time commenting on nofollow blogs with no benefit. now I'm see much better results.

I check to see if my comment was published on the site. After that, I assumed I'm cleared and I post.

I usually leave a comment and forget it. If the comment is interesting or informative it will probably get approved.

If its approved my comment instantly, I take noted of it then I post new comment there after a week.

If it was put into moderation, I also take noted of it then I check it daily to see when and how long before it got approve. I monitor it for 2 weeks.

I made a list of blogs that I have commented so that I can monitor if it's approved or not.

Yes but for me.. First, I will check the blog if it is a do-follow or a no-follow blog before posting any comment on it.

And also check if its related on your keyword for that blog. After checking, make a good post related in the articles.

    That's it.

I just look for blogs I enjoy reading and I subscribe for the RSS feed. I don't comment on every new post, but I do if they're interesting or I think I've got something interesting to say.

Maybe its not the most effective SEO tactic for short-term gain, but it helps a lot more to establish a positive relationship with other bloggers than it is to get one link in the comments <div>

I'm trying to write an interesting and informative comment. I'm commenting mostly on dofollow blogs. To catch them, use fast blog finder. It's quite usefull.

I normally keep track of the high PR dofollow blogs, and how many comments I post on them. I use the nodofollow plugin for firefox to check if a blog if a dofollow or nofollow right away.
