Hi, I'm working on optimizing a website which used to have very long title tags i.e. 12 words long. Now I’ve reduced it to 7. It used to be something like this: Clients website name Ltd - Personal injury solicitors clinical negligence human rights lawyers And now reads: Personal injury lawyers - Clients website name solicitors It looks better but do you think this will lose me a lot of traffic? Sorry can't disclose actual site.
to my experience "YES". it is written in everywhere that title should be less than 12 words but to my experience i benefit from long tail title than short.
It's not the number of words that really matters. Things that I try to keep in mind when developing Titles are - - Try and keep it under 65 characters so that it all gets read by Google. - Put the targeted unbranded terms at the front of the tag - Company name at the end of the tag
Title tags need to be viewed not only with Google in mind but also the user It is the first thing the user sees in the serps so to get high ctr it should be informative and have some relevance to what the user is searching for, this will also be more friendly to Google, get the keywords at the front but dont cram the keywords in or it will look like spam
Try to include your main keywords towards the starting of your title tag. No excessive keyword stuffing on your title tag. Google lists up to 70 characters while Yahoo lists up to 120 characters. As a general rule try to keep it at a maximum of 66 characters to get best results.
