I'm looking to have a plugin created for me. The plugin will be sold after creation, so I need somebody that can work with me on support problems when they come up.

I don't want to give away too many details, but the idea is pretty detailed, so you will have to have a few plugins under your belt already.

If you would be willing to go a little cheaper up front, I would be willing to split profits with you as well. This is not necessary though, just an idea to throw out there.

PM me for more information on the plugin.

A public aspect that I believe one would be interested in a clarification for is... You know that Wordpress licensing requires you to release the plugin as GPL, right? Is that what you're going to follow? And who will retain the copyright for the code?

I would say you are somehow wrong. Tho there is no definitive answer for this question, WordPress plugins are not derivations of WordPress, they are addons, different products. They contain new code independent of the Wordpress code.

For example, linux may be open source, but applications built to run on linux are not. The same goes for wp plugins.

Also here is a paragraph from WordPress License confirming this:

"These requirements apply to the modified work as a whole. If identifiable sections of that work are not derived from the Program, and can be reasonably considered independent and separate works in themselves, then this License, and its terms, do not apply to those sections when you distribute them as separate works."

fireflyproject send me more info regarding the plugin. I can help you with it.

GoScript has it right. The only place they mention the GPL for plugins is when uploading to their site. They require all plugins that are hosted on their servers to be free.

I've PMed you Clive, and I'll PM you GoScript.

This seems to be conflicting with a WP moderator's words here:
At the end of the day, this is a point of confusion that has determined me to move away from full time Joomla development right when I was ready to focuson a huge-demand component for the community. Because I did not inherit a fortune from my ancestors, I need to earn money for a living, and because web development is what I'm good at, I code to earn.

I am not against GPL, and I would truly love it if software developers allowed room for developers like me who develop free plugins but need to charge for some if that is what he is doing full time.

WordPress guys seem to be nice by putting in the statement that you quoted, and I plan to get in touch with them eventually to see if there's any constructive way for me to start working on my old plan about commercial plugins next to the free ones that I built over the time.
