Good day everyone, I would like to create multiples shops hosted on different domain names but all selling products pulled from the same database. I would also like to have a control panel to create or update a product easily and make the updated version of that product available on all sites. I know CSS and that's it so please bear this in mind when you think about this project. The software should be easy to implement for a novice like me. Can you do this and for how much? Is there a program that can already do that? Thank you in advance for your reply.
I think you're gonna have to go with one master database + control panel, and then replicate to the other shops using a standarized interface. I do hope the shops all run the same database structure? Then i can do this for $200 for you, in less than 4 days.
Interesting. medaa25, easiest and probably best way to do sthis would be setting up a normal shop on a master domain of yours, and then set up additional websites configured to be able to pull data from it via RSS feeds. Would something like that work? Or do you want individual shop items to be "based" on that particular website?
Clive. The RSS feeds won't work with my project. Just to give you more details. I would like to do a shop with for example 5 products to sell. I would like to be able to sell those same products on different websites, but with a different description and perhaps pricings structure and currency. I would also like to be able to add, withdraw or udpate products from one site or many sites or all sites at the same time. All of these fonctions must be done from one unique control panel Pages should be with static Seo'd url. Unique title/description/metatags Should be able to use paypal and other payment processing services or direct to my bank account. So it is a bit more complicated that RSS feeds I think... That said, I am going to explore this option.
I take the picture is quite complex here. You want to advertise the same products on different websites with different descriptions and different pricing schemes. So basically all that your networked websites will have in common are the product names, and perhaps related pictures/thumbnails. I don't think there's much room or reason for having a "unique" database when most of the information is specific to each website...
Why one unique database? Because I want to be able to pull the plug on a product on all sites if it is out of stocks for example. As well as the script being able to update the amount of a product left on all sites at the same time. Do you still think a unique database isn't needed? Perhaps you're right. But all I want is in fact something able to do what I want it to do with one unique control panel.
I'm just considering your point, not that I would not support it. But imagine yourself running 5 websites off one control panel. I think you'll be looking for more trouble than ease of use. How would you update the pricing for each website individually? How would you tell which website the price is for? Same goes for description and other stuff that will be website individual. I mean that's possible, but cost wise it's probably something not worth considering, most probably.
Thank you for your questions as they will help me to clarify my points to the programmers I will chose. Can you picture this: Let's say I am selling one pair of jeans and one pair of socks on 5 websites. I want to edit the price and the description on one of the 5 websites. I log into my control panel. I chose the product Jeans to update. On the jeans editing page I have all the listings info of all the 5 websites selling jeans with their respective url so I know which website is selling this pair Jeans at what price. To edit I just need to replace the amount and the description of the listing of the website I want to edit. I click save and that is it, I have edited the Jeans description on one of the 5 websites. Another situation would be that I am out of stock and I have no more socks for sale. I need to update my 5 websites. I log in the control panel. Chose to edit the product socks Click the out of stock button and it updates all the sites with an Out of Stock icon. To me it sound pretty easy. I guess I will need to explain this really carefully before deciding on who to work with. I have a few people who tell me they can help. Since you have a good reputation here, can you tell me the best way to secure a good programmeur. I wouldn't want to pay someone upfront just for him to run off with my money and do nothing or deliver something not as expected. In short, is there a plateform that I can use that will protect me from thieves and crooks? Thank you in advance for your reply.
From my own point of view, to cut the long story short, all you're worried about is the inventory update that needs to be reflected on all websites, no matter which one of them handles any particular item sale. Is that so? If positive, then this is what I'd do: Buy a multi-domain shared hosting account. Hook all your domains to it, and install the 5 instances of the shopping cart, making sure they all use the same database, just separate tables. A custom modification to the shopping cart is possible where inventory updates would happen on all websites regardless which one handles a particular sale or which one you use to log in to the admin panel and change the stock information. Sounds like the best option in your case, and yes, I CAN do that.
