I'm having issues with current Merchant provider. Their customer service sucks, their rates are not following the contract I signed, they randomly charge me BS fees and I have other problems with them. Friday they charged me $150 for some mandatory security compliance BS. Basically, I'm sick of their shit. I know that authorize.net is a good merchant, but you have to go through a bank for them and when I applied, I was denied because I am a "Web Solutions" company. This sucks because I used to use them for my Dialup Internet Company 4 years ago. Since then, I have failed to find a good provider with good rates. I have to have auto recurring billing, EFT, and/or be api compatible with whmautopilot. Does anyone know of a good Merchant? Who's the Best?
Authorize.Net is NOT a Payment Processor. They are just a payment gateway. This means you will need to have a merchant account which means going through a bank no mater what you do. It doesn't have to be your local bank but ultimately an acquiring bank will decide whether you get a merchant account or not. But being a "web solutions company" doesn't mean you can't get a merchant account to use with Authorize.Net. You just have to find a merchant account provider whom will accept that kind of business. A lot of them do so if you look around even just a little bit you shouldn't have an issue finding one.
Authorize.net is very strict about what banks they work with. Surprisingly, there is only a small list. And they are all listed on their website. I chose a bank from my State that I have delt with before. This time I got denied. 4 years later, they say that the risk for a "web solutions" company is too high risk. The biggest thing against me is web hosting. There has been too much fraud with hosting companies.
Authorize.Net doesn't "work" with banks. They "work" directly with processing networks. And they support virtually every processing network (I'm fairly certain they actually support every processing network). They are in no way tied to any bank as far as using their payment gateway goes. Accounts are established by resellers. Banks can be resellers. But so can you and I. In fact, I am a reseller (and a certified developer). Authorize.Net is virtually no different then a credit card terminal or piece of desktop software. They only facilitate payments. With the obvious exception of illegal activities and such they really don't care who uses their services. Mostly because the risk for transactions fall on to the processor, not them. You shouldn't be going to Authorize.Net to find a merchant account. You should be going directly to merchant account providers to get your merchant account and asking them if they are a reseller for Authorize.Net so they can establish an Authorize.Net account for you. If you get denied for a merchant account that's a separate thing from being denied by Authorize.Net. There are literally thousands and thousands of "web solution" providers using Authorize.Net. It's just a matter of finding a provider to establish the merchant account that uses Authorize.Net.

Most processors are going to be charging PCI non compliance fees. If they aren't, most will be soon. The best way to prevent these fees is to get PCI compliant, which is required for all business in the US. On the authorize.net comment, you definitely don't have to go through a bank to get an authnet account. We've got hundreds of websites and online services providers using it. Whatever reason you received was strictly a policy of the company you were applying with.
Well it would really depend on what you are about to sell, if you've records from your previous merchants, what target (country wise) and price wise your product would be.. If you can describe your business a little we might be capable to advice you!
